Hey guys, why are all the custom skins rendered as the default grey car? I have peer-to-peer enabled and "Ignore player skins" unchecked yet even after many laps of racing, the skins don't load. Does anybody else have this problem? How can this be fixed?

It's because, all players doesn't create a pak for their skins.

Packs are not neccesary. My skin is not packed using that new pack function and other players can see it just fine. It's just that a lot of people got slow internet connection, so peer to peer sucks. That's also why I use a locator and uploaded my skin on my webserver, that way pretty much everyone in the server sees my skin in the first round.

jonthekiller was correct in reference to a prior beta where one couldn't even choose a skin to use as your vehicle until you created a PAK. However, since the beta3 release I've been able to both select a non-PAK skin as my vehicle and also have others see it online (without a locator); so I think the PAK restriction has been lifted.

I also see lots of grey cars. Is there a tutorial anywhere for "creating a locator" or making a "Pak"? I have started making a custom skin and would obviously like people to see it!

You'll need a place to host it, so just wait for the mania thing to open when the game is released. Basically what the locater does is give the server a link to the skin online instead of getting it from you. That's really all I know about it, I think I remember the carpark had that functionality in previous games.

Go to Mania Creative to learn more about custom content and locators as the information has changed little since TM1.

The reason for not being able to see skins or avatars is either they have not hosted it or located it, P2P is blocked on their end, or as i have seen once, I think downloads can be unintentionally roadblocked by some players- if there is no downloading bar at the top right any of these could be the case.

Paks are terrible!
I tried making a pak with a track I just finished at that time. What happens? It says "Invalid name" and then the pack appears in a list and it seems to be empty. I have absolutely NO idea what this pak does. Somehow it also appears on my maniaplanet player page but I have no god damn idea on how to remove it and what to do with it. On maniaplanet player page there is a generate a key function. which is... interesting. for the long run.
Then I am trying to drive this track but it wont let me. [a lot of struggle, resulting in me deleting the pak's file and happily being able to drive the track again but still having this god damn pak that I have no idea how to use or delete in my maniaplanet player page] Fin.

You can't see player's skins because they use no locator.
