One thing that I find very confusing and complicated, is to explain how Trackmania is for my friends, especially the ones on Steam, I have all the TM Titles, and I play them via Steam, sometimes it's very difficult to explain them what each game is.

"United Forever? Is that the new Trackmania?

No, that is technically the Trackmania 1 games in one

But why the sequels are called Trackmania 2 and not this one?"

Or

"Why is there Trackmania 2 games and Trackmania Turbo? Is Turbo Trackmania 3?"

I have other examples that I can't get in my mind right now but, hell, the way the games are being sold is very confusing for newcomers, I just wonder how you guys explain the games when a friend shows up interested to get in the series.

I tell people that Turbo is a separate, more Arcade/Console version of TM2 which is the Current Trackmania with multiple environments that are purchased separately but played from one main Hub called Maniaplanet.
Yea, it is a bit confusing especially because no one around here has ever even heard of any of them.

I install them the demo version of e.g. Stadium and play with them.

Just show the game to them. If they like, they will know about other TrackMania games easily.

Show the awesome trailers and let them experience it with VR on cinematic mode.

It's easy to start listing up the whole Trackmania history if you want to explain the games, but a shorthand that is easy to get:

- United Forever: First generation
- TrackMania2: Second generation
- Turbo: Arcade spinoff of second generation

And yes, show some trailers and let them download demos if they still wonder about how the games work

I was generalizing it a bit

I do know that United Forever is a final combination of the releases of TrackMania, Original, PowerUp, Sunrise, Sunrise Extreme, Nations, United and the Forever extensions. But it's still a full game with all environments included, and there aren't many players who still play the older games beside Forever. Considering that TM2 (with Maniaplanet) utilizes a completely different engine and a different way of using environments (so-called titlepacks), and being a new 'game' altogether, I figured that it made sense to categorize it in this way. Sorry if I seemed a bit incorrect in my statement
