...every time i see screenshots from people with "WIP-Mods", showing they use the VisualTextureGuideMod i am really happy, that your efforts to teach the TM-Fans how to mod are appreciated...you already did a fantastic job with your YouTube-Guides for TMNF, but you outdid yourself with the VisualTextureGuide, it seems to be even more intuitive :->
...i remember when you told me about the idea two months ago :-> ...and your idea for the VTGMod indeed was brilliant :- )

Congrats Hawk  and 'have fun' to all who try out the VTGMod

Hi
I don't want to flood a forum to post a question, so i mind to ask here.
I have a problem with textures: they look... granulous.
Here's the image: http://i44.tinypic.com/fcioa8.jpg.
Ignore the fact it's pink and too satured: that's problem of overlapping Dirt_D.dds with Dirt_X2.dds.
the problem is that when i save the texture (the texture is a slightly modifed version of the original dirt), i think.
It happens even with the rest of the textures i modifed.
I use the NVIDIA dds tool in Photoshop to save textures and i use DXT5 interpolated alpha mode. When i took the original texture, opened it and saved it, the texture looks as granulous as the modifed one. There must be a problem, of sure.

Can you tell me what am i doing of wrong in the procedure? If the problem is effectively the plugin, what am i recommaned to use? I used to use DXTbmp, but it looked slow for me.
Sorry if i may flood a thread with help questions, but i couldn't find some decent Google results for it.
Thanks in advance.

Hmm I don't think I have ever seen something like that before.
Hard to see from your pic. Are the grains transparent if you zoom in on them? Then maybe it's a problem with the alpha channel. Try saving it without alpha channel.
Have you saved the texture with enough MIP-Maps (I always save with 9)?
Are the grains still there if this one texture is the only one in the mod? Maybe some other texture you don't know of overlaps it...

You were right: the problem was exactely with MIP maps: i didn't know of them until i got what do they serve. Pretty ingegnous. Thanks for the info. Sorry, but i'm not a 3D artist yet :S

I got another question though: it's about the Normal maps. They work correctly, but they look like plast:
http://i39.tinypic.com/6jqek0.jpg
I may imagine the problem, but i'm not too sure, it's so hard to get a good result, as good as the original game: The normal maps of TM2 look perfect, but the ones made with the NVIDIA's plugin do not give a similar result.
I even tried this, but the texture still looks like plast. I don't know what am i doing of incorrect, what to do to get a good result?

EDIT: The problem wasn't with the normal map, it worked, the problem, i think, was with the specular map. i am not really sure how the specular map works in Trackmania (what does green and what does red, but i assume that red makes the surface opaque), but i know that specular maps were used in the six enviroments of TMU (not counting stadium) as alpha channels, which i understood. I have to say that black and white S maps are much more handy, though.

Occam made a few videos showing this mod:

StadiumRoadBorder can't be modded in the current version of Stadium, but it is included in the texture files.

Great job
But... Canyon? :? Should the ZIP not be Stadium? ;)
We need both: Canyon updated with the new blocks, and Stadium, please

Edit: fixed, also see below posts ;)

...for updating the initial post we have to wait for Hawk to see your post

...we can assume that it might have been a tiny 'copy-and-paste-glitch' ^^ from Hawk...i think at most places is the correct link...since i copied the links for the YouTube-Video comment from one of Hawk's source-posts and there it must have been correct...

...in any case, here is the Link to Stadium VisualTextureGuideMod:
