Sometimes, the scales just fall from your eyes and that just happened to me 5 minutes ago while browsing the server list : Everything is just as bad as in TMN/TMU, all the bad old habits have been brought to the game, TM2 is about to be ruined before it's even released.
48 pages of servers, that's over 500, 70% of them empty or close to it (that's certainly gonna rise to 90% later on), 90% of them listing the same useless b*llshit transition tracks from the MX awards lists, little 30-40sec canapes for the mindless driver, people fleeing in hordes from the server if something doesn't fit that scheme or takes them 5 seconds more to comprehend. And all of that even before the game is officially released. That makes me sad.
Somehow, I feel like walking a street, looking for a restaurant, but all I can find are McDonalds after McDonalds, corner after corner, uniformity of the disgusting kind which ultimately ruins the taste of the masses.
I had hoped so much that this would've died with TMN/TMU, that things could've changed with TM2, a newer, a better community of trackmakers, server operators, users ... the reality of it makes me feel like an idiot.
Well, at least this time they have to pay for it. That's something, not much, but something.

This was my very own full blown rant, I needed to say this. Berate it, ridicule it, ignore it, do what you like.

Re: Ruining the game before it's even released
what is wrong with the current map maker, server operator and user community?
having many crap servers and empty is one thing but how does that make whole community bad??

Re: Ruining the game before it's even released
It's the lot of it. Basically, it doesn't matter anymore, which server you join, you get the same system, the same kind of random maps and the same kind of random jock driving his rounds ... It's all the same. And it's pretty ugly. That's why I made the comparison to McDonald's.
Imagine people who will buy TM2 because it's a "new game". Little do they know that everything is already set for them : The servers they play on, the kind of tracks they're obliged to like or make etc... it's just sad. TM2 deserves better than that.

you are right you know for some part and there are things that should come to address this. This is why maniaplanet is a system and this takes time to build, but we required stronger fondations to more easily make better on these parts.
it will be based on some updates, smaller and bigger within the end of the year. Canyon is the starting line

I wish you the very best of success doing this. I'm the last one to mind if everything old and bad was just blown away and things were given a "brand new start".
Re: Ruining the game before it's even released
Surely there are some good servers out ther for you. Sure there are some naff ones but each to there own right.
Why not just have a list of the top servers for different racing style's. Or make some of your own tracks.

I prefer to build new stuff instead to blow away things old things. So, I want to bring evolution on this topic, but it is quite something and far from an easy step.

Re: Ruining the game before it's even released
I can't believe you all are so ungrateful. Seriously. Half of you are whining that TM2 isn't like the old Trackmanias, and the other half are whining that it -is- like the old Trackmanias. Isn't there anybody other than me that -is- happy with what we have here? I think you all really need to watch Purification's Video again to see what the potential of Trackmania Canyon is. Have you noticed that there are actually -different- types of blocks? There's the GP and platform/arena blocks for the full-speeders. There's the techy roadMain blocks for the precise drivers. The more I play TM2, the more I think that never the twain shall meet in terms of blocks, at least, not if you're looking for Style X or Style Y in a track. But putting all that aside, Trackmania isn't supposed to be the next eSport game or next high-level competition game. You're forgetting the rest of the features. The in-game painter, the mediatracker. Trackmania is to be regarded as a whole, not simply as another racing title in an ever-growing stable. To be fair, there are some things about Canyon that I'm a little nervous about, too. Even some of the things that TStar outlined in his post above. But there's a right way and a wrong way to go about bringing them to the dev team's attention. The way that I've seen most often here in the forums is "OMG Canyon sux it was a waste of my monies Nando feex it nao", without so much as even a please attached to the end. If I was a game dev (and it's probably a good thing I'm not), I certainly wouldn't feel entitled to please a crowd like that with -any- sort of content changes.

Don't worry TStar, map quality will improve as you get around to making some Canyon tracks. I'd be more than happy to host a server with just your tracks!

Re: Ruining the game before it's even released
Well, the good idea for the server list is on the forum.
I posted it many months ago and much users liked it.
Hylis, i think (it's obvious, not now) but with time, in future, can be a good change!!
Please think about it.
For the main post, yes, but the community of TM is based on this : creativity.
So if the "creative" man, comes out with a new script and different maps (from the usuals), you will find, for sure, interest in play that server. (The creative man isn't me, but all the coders that do scripts and maps).
Well is hard to complete a race in 5:00 when you drift and all is dark yellow "desert" color, but this will give new life to TM because you need to learn again how to drive.
Just wait some days, or months, and we can give a real feedback.
In this moment i can say only that the Nadeo staff done a great work (graphics) in very little time...
And i think "ManiaPlanet" is a Poker of Aces, now the hand show the first Ace....
Well, all community users know i didn't shared some Nadeo decision, but we are here, we have TM2, let's work on it, give it a chance, and let's see what "creative men" pull out of it...

This is the screenshot of my idea. I report it here too.
