need Help for Custom player model creation.

I've been trying to create a custom player model, but it is my first time trying such a thing and I don't quite understand the new Requirements, since the most comprehensive tutorials are outdated.
Do you have a limit on how many texture files you can have or would I need to merge them into a big file?
How many different materials can you define? And most importantly can you have different UV's for specular and normal?
The model I'm trying to convert came with specular diffuse and normal textures but some of the objects have different UV's for Specular and Diffuse.
And lastly I have a mesh (the eyelashes) that as an alpha channel, would I need convert the material to TDOS for that and how would I do that?
Any advice is appreciated.
