Repeated Updates on Steam?

Over the past few days, I've had to update Maniaplanet 4 or 5 times. It always shows the same prompt:
If I check via Openplanet, the log says:
[ Platform] [01:35:52] Versions:
[ Platform] [01:35:52] ManiaPlanet 2019-05-23 09:48:09
...so I already have it.
I'll download the update and then play the game, and then after closing the game and reopening, it will sometimes, but not always, do it again. I haven't been able to figure out a pattern--it doesn't seem to correspond to a particular title. I've had it happen with Stadium, Valley, and Canyon.
When I check file integrity via Steam, there are never any problems found.
I'm getting tired of downloading updates. Help?

LOL, just got this immediately after the previous update finished and I clicked on a titlepack:

It looks like this is dependent on which shortcut in my Steam Library I use to launch the game. ("Maniaplanet 2 Canyon" vs. "Maniaplanet 2 Stadium" and so on). Canyon is my "primary" title on Steam (i.e. I bought it first, the Maniaplanet folder in my Steam Library is steamapps\common\Maniaplanet_TMCanyon).
If I open Canyon from my Steam library I'm forced to update, then if I open via one of the other titles (Stadium, Lagoon, Valley) everything's fine, but after that, if I open Maniaplanet again after opening another title, I'm forced to update again.
Something is getting stomped depending on which Steam title I open and forcing repeated updates.
Interestingly, as I reported to Miss here, Openplanet only seems to function when I open the Canyon title via Steam, and doesn't work when I open any of the other titles. Related?
