Questions: Map Editor Features

'Morning all :? :D .

Over the next few days, I am going to ask some (hopefully) simple questions about the Editor (map building and replay editing), so that I can finally understand some features once and for all. I hope people will be patient with my 'dumbness' and give short, clear explanations about things I have always had trouble with. :|

As for my online searching, the official MP documentation (https://doc.maniaplanet.com/map-editor/ ... map-editor) seems incomplete.

1. Those little x's above custom items tiles: Does the 'x' mean an item is not really made for the Title I am in or is it only used to remove the item? Some tiles have the 'x' and some don't, hence my question.

2. Can somebody please point me to a good, clear but 'made for simple people' tutorial on how to use triggers/ conditions?

I am ok with using triggers for camera changes, diverting to a GPS Replay etc but I really don't know how to do more advanced stuff. E.g. adding a message or making the screen go black if a player misses a checkpoint; setting up triggers so that a player either restarts the map or re-spawns to the previous cp after the triggered action.

* Scenario:
- I place a cp ( e.g. CP14) in an obscure spot (RPG map).
- A player passes through CP13 and ignores a sign or on-screen text telling them to find CP14.
- Player passes through CP15 and is stopped by a black screen or an image which forces them to return to CP13 - NOT forced to restart the map.
- If a player goes correctly through CP13 and CP14 on first approach, they are allowed to pass CP15 without being stopped by the image.
--- If a player has been forced to re-spawn, they will then be allowed through CP15.

3. More to come...

Many thanks ..... :pil

RE:#1
The little x at the top of items is to delete the item but only custom (user) items can be deleted.

Also this delete button can be used to remove all instances of an item from a map...
When doing this USE CAUTION! not to delete the item at the final step.
Here's how: When you click the x to delete, and there are instances of the item on your map, you will told instances will be removed first and asked to confirm that you want to remove them. Click YES & items will be removed. Then you will be asked if you are sure you want to delete the item. Click NO. That's it, the item is no longer on your map.

I too would like to know more about trigger conditions. For the most part (I think) the conditions are only useful for ingame (during a race) mediatracks and not for intros or outros and I almost never get the results I hope for so yes, more detailed info would be nice.

As for performing actions after missing a checkpoint (like fade to black) to my knowledge this is not a feature available in the official game but rather a feature of an addon and I don't really know anymore about that.

Thanks Demented- excellent answer!
One reason for my question is that some custom item don't have that 'x' but that's no big deal.
Plus: If I click 'Yes' at the last step, the file will be removed from my 'Items' folder, correct?

Yes, and as far as I know you cannot recover a deleted item.

I would really like to see soon, a TM feature where when you delete an item, map, replay or any content from within the game it will be sent to the trash can so it could be recovered after a moment of "micro-stupidity". :o

Yes, very good idea!
In my case, a micro-moment of macro-stupidity... :? ...

I undertsand this feeling as i have clicked on the little x by mistake, maybe the folder should be more like if you need to delete it then its a right click on the mouse key then it comes up with a warning that this item will be removed from Game, or a hot key on your keyboard "only an idea" but i also love demented's idea of it going to your waste bin as well, been honest i already thinked it did wow, shock horror i been lucky then.

3. Is it possible to link cp's in groups, so that a player only needs to pass through one cp in any group to trigger them all?

Oh look (he says, tongue in cheek), eyebo knows how to do this: viewtopic.php?f=659&t=45986#p308478 !!!

This is a great example of my constant headache: How come some people know these kind of things, while most of us never find out about them? Is there an actual (complete) user manual buried somewhere in the interweb? Is it hidden within the game like an Easter Egg?

Cheers .....
PS: My next question will be less sarcastic... ;)

Maybe someone should start a topic called Trackmania Features Tips and Tricks, with a list of less known features that can be added to with updates.
I had a topic at quite some time ago for Tips and Tricks but it kinda faded out over time.
Found the link: Editor Help Tips and Tricks
Definitely outdated. :roflol:

Ah, thanks for that Demented (hope all is well down there where you live). Actually, the first page does look familiar. You started that thread so long ago, I would probably have been too young to understand what was being said anyway. But I will take a look now ;) .

Excellent idea re making a definitive sticky section on the less-known editor tricks!

Cheers ..... :pil
