FPS dropping and never coming back?

Hello,
Since around a week my game acts very weirdly = when i come back from alt-tab my FPS are around 200 as usual, but after few seconds they drop to 40-60. This is especially noticable in Trackmania, in Shootmania when you look into the sky, the FPS are coming back up and again dropping after 5 seconds. My friend, who recently bought a much better laptop than i own, has the same issue
As counted: for me, the fps drop is 80% (200-40)
For my friend, also 80% (300-60)
My spec: ASUS K501L
i5-5200u
GTX950M (2GB)
8 GB RAM DDR3 1600MHz
My friends spec: Lenovo L340
i5-9300
GTX 1650 (4GB)
8GB RAM DDR4 2400MHz
We both tried reinstalling, driver clean install, changing preferred GPU for both normal and PhysX, enabling triple buffering, dis/enabling Game Mode
In my eyes theres an issue with rendering blocks in-sight, but dont take that as a 100%, the evidence kinda makes me think so
Regards

I'm Curious if you get the same issues in offline mode?
Also, does ALT+Enter (toggling full screen and windowed) have any effect?

looks like your system is throttling.
Try to set GPU max performance for Trackmania in the nvidia settings.

Marc: for 5 years i had no issues and i even lowered all the settings in both game and nvidia to minimum and still nothing
My friend did the same - no result.
Fullscreen windowed cuts the 20% of nornal fps in half

Offline mode is the same.

Did you check in the launcher that really the GTX is used, and not the intel video chip? ;)

Also as always, make sure that both the video driver and the game's video settings do not collide.
Preferrably delete the file Default.System.Config.Gbx in your Maniaplanet windows documents folder (it will be created again automatically at the next start).

Considering this is a laptop, this is very likely to be the problem.

I checked and it shows me a list of programs which use the GPU - Maniaplanet.exe is on the list, however i have no way to chack if after fps drops its still there.
I will try deleting the file today.

Ok.
Also add the launcher.exe as this does the actual video configuration.

I've had Nvidia updates cause the GPU to run it's own profile on top of the Nadeo processing (essentially processing things twice) I had to change the settings to let the graphics card process the graphics and force/override Maniaplanet. Don't know why that worked but it did and now I can run everything on high (and I'm on an older machine)
