track editor - map

Post by maniaman »

what if there was an option to select what kind of shape you would like to have for your map.
so if the current map is 32x32x30 ( i think ) there would be an option to select :

800x50x100 ( for straight and very fast tracks :D )
...or...
100x100x400 ( for very high tracks :D )

the normal map would steel exist
please reply! :)

This option was available in TrackMania Original, I hope Nadeo will re-introduce it in TM2 (also as an update). ;)

An 800x50x10 track file would be over a megabyte (atm a normal track is 35x35x[depending on environment])

Stadium is 32x32 + 32 levels high. That's 32768 blocks total.
Choosing from these optional sizes would use the same total blocks:
at 64 blocks high: 16x16 / 8x32 / 4x64 / 2x128 / 1x256
at 32 blocks high: 32x32 / 16x64 / 8x128 / 4x256 / 2x512
at 16 blocks high: 64x64 / 32x128 / 16x256 / 8x512 / 4x1024
at 8 blocks high: 128x128 / 64x256 / 32x512 / 16x1024 / 8x2048
So if you didn't need the height you could make a very large track with long streight roads without making the file sizes any bigger.

what if there was no limit to the editor and once u built your track it cropped the field so it would just fit perfectly.

This would indeed be a really nice idea. A cool idea would also,to set a coppers limit, when opening a map and then you can build where you want and what you want and if you are getting to the coppers limit, you get a warning. And than the map is cropped until the limit is reached. Sounds a little strange, but why not :)

Indeed not a bad idea.
But I don't know how it should fit to the scenery around (e.g. the big mountains or the city in bay) because it has a solid size.

And the copperlimit is strange. Because you have endless space to built, but on the other hand you have a limit of blocks. don't really know about that. If there is one, it should be really high ;)

LOL I kinda actually liked the idea of the old Sunrise, where it gave you incentive to own on the singleplayer tracks, not just to have them unlocked, but to earn Coppers as well--but also earn them in online races too. Then to use the coppers to unlock more pieces and larger tracks in the editor, for those of us that don't use Manialinks.... :P

Indeed, that was pretty funny. Until the coppers cheat came up :D

Heh, well that's true, I suppose. But then, out of curiosity, what is the current "purpose" of coppers?
