[TM2] Severe slow down.

Ok so over the last 2 days, working on skins and alt-tabbing in and out the game I have come to notice a weird...bug? I guess you should call it.

Trackmania 2 plays perfectly fine on my PC which is a Phenom 9950, GTX260 OC 896mb 216 core, 4GB DDR2 800 on Win7 x64.

Sometimes though, and it seems to happen if I ALT-TAB a lot, the game will become completely unplayable. Like maybe around 5-10FPS. When that happens I have to completely reboot the PC. Today, in fact, the reason I'm posting this is I just had TM2 do it again after ALT+Tab'ing back into the game, but this time it cause nVidia's OpenGL driver to crash completely, crashing both TM2 and Photoshop at the same time. Now going back into the game it's unplayable slow.

Anyone know of a way to fix this without rebooting? So far have had to reboot twice in 2 days because of it and it's getting rather annoying. Never had a game do this on me, at least not to the point where I have to restart the entire computer. Usually it's just a memory leak or something in a game and restarting the game fixes it. However not the case here.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I did a bit of testing and it seems when this issue happens it's locking the GPU clocks into 2D mode. No wonder it's playing so slow. I've tried resetting the clocks, didn't work. What doesn't make sense is that it still transitions between 2D Low Power mode and 2D Mode, but doesn't seem to want to go to 3D mode. Anyone know of a way to force windows to restart the display driver, like when the driver crashes and is recovered, that might reset the clocks.
