Seriously Trackmania shall do something about their low player statuses, I see so much great potential in this game that is not used, that's goin to waste.

But why wait till more players have bought the game, I think if you not doin anything about this more and more people will drop off and then almost no one will buy canyon.
When it is also known that you have a large community with 10 million registred users in Trackmanai NF, why not tryick some of them to get over to this game as this are the newest, but I understand as this game dont offer so much more than better graphics.
Here are my suggestions for you nadeo:

Make some new game modes, what about stunt, in trackmania you jump alot on crazy jumps, why not offering us a stuntmode where you get points for jumps and things you do in the are, yuo would probably have to do so you could rotate you car in the air but that's not a big problem.

most awesome one would be this, try to make a competion mode like in flatout where u take you r car and jump through rings of fire, or in a soccer goal and get points depending on where you hit the gaol, jumping as high as u can and getting point for that, all in one competion mode ( exampel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psy35gCjmcI )

A drifting mode as you have worked more with drifting in this game than in the others, sometime when I driving I almost feel like I am in the movie fast and furious tokyo drift, would also be fun.

Make some more different cars to use, always fun with variation.

Give us players something to fight for, like if you win a game you gain a couple of "recources" that you use for nwe skin for car, new map, something for the map editor you name it! But this is an important point in a game, a player want something to fight for, that's why Wow have it, Battlefield, League of legends almost every big game, it keeps the player to the game as the players always want more.

And of course making a new environment, but I actually think this is the last important of all this points.

Why not making a great patch where you split up some of this points that I just wrote down with the patch and the upcoming Canyon.

I promise, if thi game would have all this, Trackmania 2 would be one of the biggest games on the market right now ( with some advertisements) instead it's just a couple of thousand playing it witch i think is very sad as you could do so much with this game as I said.
sad about steam cause they would have helped alot with giving advertisements to this game.

I do agree about new game modes. One of the things I really miss are the game modes from United, especially Platform. I was very sad when the final release came out and no Platform, no Stunts and no Puzzle! I really hope they bring back these modes in a future update.
But, about the other modes you suggested, well, i am not sure. Nadeo has to execute these modes very carefully, as the game they might break the Trackmania formula. The fact that Nadeo did not change the game's formula in TM 2 was one of my favorite aspects of the game. However, the drift mode sounds interesting. It could be blended to Stunts.
And, well, you DO earn currency in game. And you can use it to buy new maps, cars and mods. At least, it was like that in United, and I believe it is the same thing here, with Manialinks, if I am not wrong (damn it, I have this game since the Beta 3 and I didn't explore the Manialinks more deeply yet!).

From what I've seen, most players that played United in the past went back to United because it has more content and more servers. Most of the players that used to play Nations didn't liked the game very much because it is not Stadium 2 (and, fortunately, Nadeo did not make Stadium 2), and, as a result, they went back to Stadium. Also, some of these players from Nations were not happy with the game not being free, which is a stupid thinking, in my opinion (sorry, I don't want to offend those who think that the game should be free, but Trackmania was always a paid game and should keep like this. Otherwise, how could Nadeo profit?)
I'm a huge fan of this game and I've loved it for over 5 or 6 years, and I will be playing Trackmania 2, hoping for more people to come to this game, and hoping to Nadeo bring back Stuns, Puzzle, and, especially, Platform, back.

I think it could have worked, you know with the flatout thing, of course they can't change everything, so trackmania ain't trackmania. But it is not much to do for that game mode, u get point the higher/further u jump, you get point for each ring of fire yuo passing and every goal you are making(with your car) not much work and would be extremely fun. Of course I did not want it to be exactly like flatout where you jumping out with the driver and into the goal ^^

If they leaved because this was not free they are very greedy, 20 euro is not much for a game, I udnerstand united cause they have more enviroments at the moment.

A free version of TM2? ...... Yes.... A demo, but no online capability what-so-ever and playable in Solo Mode with ghost only. Tracks and cars could be downloaded outside the game and used in the game in Solo Mode only. This would let prospective buyers get a view and a 'feel' of the game without giving away too much. Videos on both YouTube and TM-Tube will give them the full picture but not the 'feel'. If they want to go online or even play offline with a friend, then they must purchased the full game. A full, unlimited version but with a time limit ( say one month) could well be 'hacked' and therefore pointless.

I may be abit biased as I like Stadium but I'm also thinking of all those Trackmaniacs out there that have never known anything different but Stadium because they only have TMNF and theres millions of them looking for a good looking modern home.

Puzzle is a game mode where you have specific blocks and a specific number of these blocks, and you need to arrange them in order to have the best time. Platform (my favorite) is a game mode where you have to reach the end of the track without respawing or at least respawing the less times possible. Generaly, Platform tracks tend to have hard jumps, unexpected obstacles, incovenient boosts and the such.
About your game mode idea, well, it actually seems possible and fun! Based on your idea, we could, for example, have a set of checkpoints, and each checkpoints gives you a certain quantity of points. The harder checkpoints give more points! It is a possibility too.

Trackmania had demos in the past. I remember to play the TM Sunrise and TM Original demo. Trackmania 2: Canyon really could have its demo.
I like Stadium too, but I really did not like when some people came to this forum complain that Trackmania 2 is not like Nations/Stadium, when Nadeo released the final version. Stadium is really a very versatible environment, and the most complete of all, yet not my favorite. It was not cool to go play in a server and most of tracks being Stadium, while we have other 6 environment full of possibilities.
But I do agree that a Modern Stadium can bring more players

Yeah it would not be to hard to fix my idea, when we actually already have checkpoints, we would only need a point calculator.

Trackmania shoudl really take some of this ideas and release them in a big patch and then realease the others to valley, otherwise I think they will loose many player, people will drop off canyon and not buy valley.
Be smart Nadeo and do something about it when u still can!

Creating custom blocks and the ability to write scripts to create new game modes (Stunt, Drift, Checkpoints etc..) These were things promised early on and are not in the game yet. However, I still love the foundation they have created for the game and have faith that the things promised will come in time. Better to make it solid than buggy.
I do like the idea of creating Drift Tracks. Speed x Angle x Distance = Drift Score.
Dirt 3 has Gymkhana which is a type of Drift/Trick competition mode that would be fun in TM2.

Because of several unique things about TM I think it would be awesome to give it a CTF mode...
I mean, who says you can't have CTF in a driving game?
