What got you hooked on TM ?

Well maybe this is the wrong place to post, as it's really where TM1 started for me ..
But at the end of the day I would not have known about ManiaPlanet etc. if the following did not happen.
Firstly I use to play a lot of other racing games like NFS & Crash Derby etc. etc. but one day I saw a little
article in my local PC magazine about TMF and in the CD attached was a free copy of stadium (nations) setup.
Well I gave it a go ... And wow the thing that I can solely say that grabbed my attention was when I registered
a player , was that my car was all painted in my country colour (flag) that made me extremely proud ...
And that folks won me over !! I guess if that was not the case, I would never have even discovered all the other
possibilities of TM.
Happy Racing

Nice topic
I went to see my cousin in France and he showed me TMN ESWC- while he was at school I played and loved it- but the parts that really got me hooked were:
1. I could build my own track
2. I could talk and interact with other players that were playing the exact same track as me! (sounded crazy and so cool at the time ^^ now it's normal, but still cool)
Then ManiaPlanet followed on from there... TY Nadeo!

Heh, your stories will be fun to read!
I myself discovered TM when I was searching for arcade racing games. I had played some Mario Kart styled games and just want more new things.
I found out TM, but discovered I had to pay for it. It sounded really great since you were able to design your own tracks etc. Back then I was quite young (it was yeaaars ago). So I dropped it.
Some years later I found TM again, but then I realized it got a free version. I still remember, back then I was ill (and currently I'm ill as well ......). So I was able to play Nations while I was ill.. all of the time. Ahhhh! Great times!
I just loved how big TM was.
After the solo campaign I played a bit online and found TMX, then I got hooked. Many tracks, sharing my own tracks, trying to get involved in the community with my bad English skills, etc etc. Great times!
I still remember thinking 'tech' were tracks with many of those building blocks, they look technical

Trackmaking etc. is sooo addictive..
In other news : Nadeo make all country skins quickly so we can get more players in TM2 !!! <-- and I'm not joking here !! , it's a was a corner stone in TM forever. Everyone needs too feel special even when you are from a foreign country where there are just 3 players.

I can't help but wonder something Hylis said in that thread:
Hylis wrote:yes, it will be release before 2070
and if I posted here, it is because I am making screens at the moment, and I was thinking of our very first old screens, like the oldest one

Like if I look at it now, that might have been a hint that the game was coming before Anno 2070 (released on 17 November 2011)...even though Anno 2070 was only announced 3 days AFTER he said that. xD
-reads into things too much- XD

in 2005, my dad called me on his office because he wanted to show me a game, soo I came and it was the first Trackmania Demo, soo I played it and man it was love at first sight, it turned out to be my favorite racing game franchise ever, and now i have TMUF and TM2: Canyon and I am really, really proud to have those fantastic racing games, it's just, fantastic, nothing can beat my trackmania!

when i was little my parents read an article that said kids who play FPS's grow up to be cereal killers....from then on it was racing games only. I played some NFS-3, Special edition 2, and hot pursuit 2, but it never really stuck with me. i was always angry at the track after the first time i played it because i could see so many flaws in them.
I guess the thing that really roped me in was the Track editor, and then as i as i got more acquainted with the editor it was the Media tracker especially. even now i love watching videos made by players and looking at screens, then trying to do it myself. there is a special feeling of freedom that Trackmania gives you that no other racing game has. by not restricting you to the track made from the (sometimes strained) imagination of the developers and instead giving you tools to make your own tracks is just so awesome.
In my years of playing i have found that Trackmania is so awesome because to be known in the community there are so many different fields to be good at besides racing. You can make tracks, Videos, Screens, Manialinks, Servers, and even Websites... The community is so vast and welcoming, never have i found a better community than here in Trackmania.
I guess there is one reason that i was roped into Trackmania, but so, so many reasons why I have stayed. Keep being awsome Nadeo, and to the rest of the community,

!

I bought TMU shortly after it was released, and I hadn't heard of any of the TM games before, even ESWC. I bought it on a whim not knowing what to expect, and I soon got in to the online games playing short maps and LOLs on a server called "Lotto and Fun". I was useless at the game, but the regulars on the server were great guys and we always had a ton of fun. Even now, I still race with some of the people from that server, 5 years later, although our taste in maps has changed quite a lot - we are ET League regulars
I have always loved the game, and still play TMU several times a week, but it is the community that got me hooked and has kept me playing for so long. I have never found a gaming community like it ever since, with people who are friendly and keen to share and play the game in a good spirit.
