N.B.: Be careful, if your computer uses a router, your server may not be visible to the other players. Refer to your router’s user manual in order to open access to your computer.

Most people are sharing their maps through a community site like
http://tm.mania-exchange.com. Here you can upload your maps, and others can download it and put it on their servers.
The ingame server software is mainly used for LAN games (you don't need that portforwarding stuff then).
To set up a real internet server, I'd prefer to use the Dedicated Server software (
http://forum.maniaplanet.com/viewforum.php?f=261), although you also need to forward your ports when you are behind a router.

Maybe you should have just asked politely "What an i doing wrong?" or "what do I have to do to race my maps with my friends?" instead of going straight into a rant. than maybe you would find that many many people here would gladly help you instead of responding to your rant.
Anyway I will try and point you in the right direction. ( I must be getting soft in the head with old age)
a quick search here would find you the users manual
http://wiki.maniaplanet.com/en/User_manual
a quick read of this would then find you the multiplayer topic and "create a server"
http://wiki.maniaplanet.com/en/Multipla ... e_a_server
this is the quickest way to start an internet server that you can race your friends on your own maps
all you need to do is add a password so only they can join the server. Unless you want randoms joining in then no need of a PW
But as you would with any application not just maniaplanet you will need to forward or "OPEN" the port in your router for anyone to actually join from the net.
all routers have a firewall which is independant of your Operating system firewall. and all have a different method of opening ports. This has absolutely nothing to do with TM canyon.
Running a server for any game would require this.
to open then for your router go to port forward.com and search for you brand of router and follow the steps.
the server set up of a dedicated server is much more complicated and when you add the use of a server controller like Xaseco or manialive then it only gets more complicated.
this isnt easy for most players and is why there is an ingame setup, easy to run version supplied with the game.
Best of luck but if you cant get even this up and running then i suggest you just give up.

With every game I tried in the last, well, lets say 5 years, that have some kind of server software in game, I needed to forward the ports in my router. TM is no different.
You want to host a server for the Call of Duty series on your own PC without direct internet connection (behind NAT)? Portforward is necessary. Host a server for the Unreal Tournament? Portforward is necessary. Host a server for TrackMania? Portforward is necessary.
Not so difficult, huh?
