I've purchased and installed TM2-Canyon on a virtual Windows 7 machine that is running on a Mac (PowerBook Pro). Every time I try to run the game the video card bechmark test launches then I get a hard crash of the whole system (the actual computer not the virtual machine) and I have to do a hard reset of the computer.

Does TM2 - Canyon not run on virtual machines? I've downloaded and played the free version of TMNF on the same VM and had no problems.

Please help.

tm2 obviously uses more resources than tmnf. why don't you use bootcamp?

It really depends on what virtualization product you use. The free VirtualBox for example doesn't support any hardware acceleration at all, you won't be able to run many games on it.

Even if you manage to get it running inside the VM, I don't think it will be very pleasant.
Just use bootcamp if you're on a mac or don't buy games which require Windows .

I'm using Parallels and have not had any issues running PC games on it (currently running TDU2, NFS World and F1 2012).

And even if I've had games run slow on the VM they've never caused the system to crash!

I guess I'll have to ask for a refund

Omnixor is correct with his question/ reply: Boot Camp is the only way to get TM2 running on your Mac. If you really need to run Win7 and Mac simultaneously, then you cannot play this game. The weakness is not in your Mac - it's in VMWare, as it does not allow hardware resources (especially the video subsystem) to be shared properly with Win7, so get a refund on that and download Boot Camp.

What is more important to you? Playing a game (one game at a time) or being able to jump between your game and your emails/ web client etc? If the latter, then forget TM2 or buy a separate pc for Win7...... or if you really want to enjoy the full performance of TM2 on your Mac, as Omnixor suggests, get Boot Camp - simple!

Fun-fact: Parallels is a direct competitor to VMware and has nothing to do with it.

You are right of course, svens, I didn't read carefully. I have both Parallels and Fusion - both have the same disappointing failure with TM2 on my iMac/ OS Lion.
