Hold the press I've found a fix, copy the ManiaPlanet.pak file from the 'Packs' folder in the shoot mania directory under steamapps\common\ManiaPlanet_SMStorm\Packs and copy to the corresponding 'Packs' folder in the trackmania 2 directory and hey presto works and no update mentioned!
