(TM2) Steam update won't work. (Solved)

I own TrackMania Canyon, Stadium and just purchased Valley last night on Steam.

When I went to launch the game. the Mania Planet application tells me there is an optional update with choices to restart the application and apply the update or to skip the update. Either selection I make, the application forces me to restart the application and an update begins but I don't believe it works because the cycle begins as soon as I hit the play button. VERY FRUSTRATING.

I have tried all three applications and all three do the same thing, forcing this update that doesn't work and then forcing me again to reboot the application.

I've even gone so far as to validate the Steam installs, and I've also deleted all local content and re-dowloaded the applications with no success.

Any suggestions?

Got it to work by manually launching the ManiaPlanet application in Steam\SteamApps\common\ManiaPlanet.exe. This in turn installed the Shoot Mania beta that I did not have installed. After Shoot Mania installed I was able to play any three games without incident.

Why do I have to have the ShootMania Beta installed to play my Trackmania games?

I am having exactly the same problem, i cannot now launch Trackmania 2 canyon from steam. Thanks for the workaround though however for me this did not work, I can now select trackmania (even though its now defaulted to shootmania) but it says it needs a restart and then I back with the same problem. I have a game that I now cannot play...

Hold the press

I've found a fix, copy the ManiaPlanet.pak file from the 'Packs' folder in the shoot mania directory under steamapps\common\ManiaPlanet_SMStorm\Packs and copy to the corresponding 'Packs' folder in the trackmania 2 directory and hey presto works and no update mentioned!
