Fair enough, I guess they have tested this as well. Though a shot at the feet is as hard as hitting someone in the face.Leavzou wrote:This is entirely agains't the SM concept, there is not any chance for seeing this in the game.Another thing was to have a standard HP bar as attacker, so 100hp for example, this way the defenders can also do splash damage with their rockets, so it's not as hard to defend and they can bounce players away more easily. Maybe a gaunlet for defending would help too, so when an attacker is running around on the capping pad, you can easily gaunlet him instead of trying to aim a rocket at him.
You can already shoot in the feets of a player to bump him away, but nobody used it yet.

Not at all. Look at quake matches, they all aim the feets cause it's easier, you don't have to hit the guy, you can hit the ground near the player.roychez wrote:Fair enough, I guess they have tested this as well. Ah right, thought you actually had to hit their feet.Leavzou wrote:Not at all. Look at quake matches, they all aim the feets cause it's easier, you don't have to hit the guy, you can hit the ground near the player.

Re: Ideas for new competitive modes
I think competitive modes used to have a natural evolution in any game, so single person can't affect it. I'm quite sure that if the game comes out in November or December, there won't be a decent competitive mode till June. Competitive players need time to adapt and also to test everything. There'll be few leagues hosting different cups for different modes, but only one mode can be successful and popular for longer time. Noone can say which is the correct right now, nor can Nadeo.

I think the Elite mode already is pretty good for competitions. Just needs well balanced maps.PozitiveRP wrote:I'm quite sure that if the game comes out in November or December, there won't be a decent competitive mode till June.

Re: Ideas for new competitive modes
Yeah the Elite mode is pretty good indeed, but there are 2 problems with it !
The fact that you only play half of the time is already one big thing.
The second problem is that the teamplay is not really emphasized since when you defend, you are only versus one guy and strategies won't be as effective as agains't multiple players. And I think this game is more of a tactical and strategical game than a pure aim game.
Imho, the "real" competitive mod will be a real 3v3 with rocket launchers for everyone, and other weapons will be available on spots like for the zoom of railgun atm, as well as items. And I think the goal will be quite similar as the actual one, a team will be attacking while the other will defend like 2 poles.

Re: Ideas for new competitive modes
In fact, you play two third of the time since you have also your turn in attack. It can be seen as in hockey, basketball, baseball, counter-strike when you are on the side of the field for example. I don't think it is a big issue there, and it helps to cool down, enjoy watching, chat a little more by saying things and possibly think at other strategies... which lead me to the second point.
It is right that if there is no team play in defense, the mode would lose his interest. Now, it still have to be proven and then changed only afterward. Because if you make 3vs3, you have potentially a lot of point of interest, like if the watchers can follow what is happening. Again, in nearly all sports you have only one point of interest even if I agree that having to defend 'zones' while the ball circulate increase the team tactical number of possibilities. But the goal is to have infinite number, not two times infinite. With variation of maps and other blocs that can get into the path of choices, the quantity also increase I think.
Our strategy is to start as simple as possible and enough for a good eSport. At the moment, we are still enjoying and have the feeling that we need to have better coordination in defense (somebody told me this exact sentence while we played today)
So, I think it is simply too early to say.

Re: Ideas for new competitive modes
Maybe you could switch the "central" point. For example at the moment the camera as a spectator is mainly on the attacker because you don't miss the action. But as a spectator, it's hard to understand what's really going on when you are on the player pov, and that's a reason why streams are not really interesting for fps games. What I suggest is that players pov should be the minority of the spectating, especially in SM. Why ?
-because you can really understand what's going on by looking from above of the action instead of only one player, and having to guess what the others are doing. Then you can switch in pov when only 1 player is left from a team ;
-because you can appreciate a lot more amazing rockets with a general vision of the action, instead of seeing them arriving in your face or from behind ;
-because now you can add a "real" central objective that spectators can understand by seeing the action from above (like only one pole), and make a real 3v3 without losing the understanding of spectators.
I think SM is one of the game that can be watched without being in FPS as a spectator, and I think I will code and try this out when I will be able to because imho it's a huge advantage !

Re: Ideas for new competitive modes
It is totally possible to keep the camera above in the Elite mode, but it often switch to FPS
You shall experience it indeed and test.
And from above, you still have the fact that you need one point of interest. What would be football to look with three balls on the ground
