[2.0] Stereoscopic 3D issues (need Nvidia 3D Vision testers)

Post by BlackShark »

Maniaplanet 1.0 and Trackmania Canyon has a number of issues with Stereoscopic 3D.
I originally compiled as many as I could find in this thread :
Stereoscopic 3D (how-to/suggestions/bugs/etc...)

Since many bugs only appear with some types of graphics cards or some types of 3D displays, I cannot test them all

What has been tested in 2.0
- the game automatically switches off 3D when browsing the main menu (except anaglyph) -Fixed-
- the ghost car (the transparent one) is invisible and has shadow problems -Fixed-
- AMD cards : a lighting bug appears in one eye when changing the FXAA setting in game -Fixed-
- the Tone mapping auto-exposure reacts much more quickly when in 3D mode than in normal 2D mode, it's so sensitive that the brightness oscillates even for individual tunnel lights when driving trough tunnels. -Fixed-
- the "player names" bubble is located at screen depth, instead of projecting at the player's depth. -Still there-
- the amount of 3D strength (default = 15%) is under-estimating the actual amount of strength due to the use of convergence -Still there- (it's actually a separation %)
- camera 3 changes the convergence but does not release it when switching back to an other camera, until you change the map. -Still there-
- the game does not remember your type of 3D display (resets to anaglyph when you restart the game) -Still there-
- the advanced 3D menu contains a "display size" setting but is wrong most of the time -Still there-
- the advanced 3D menu does not remember the "display size" parameter if changed -Still there-
- the advanced 3D menu contains a convergence setting but has no effect -Still there-

- Side by side mode : the entire 2D interface (menus and HUD) is not transformed for 3D, it just stretches across the entire picture, you have to switch it off in order to play (keypad * key) -Fixed- -minor bug- The mouse cursor is correctly cloned and appears to be working properly but appears stretched horizontally
- Interlaced modes : the transform to produce the interlacing is a simple line discard, it looses a lot of detail and produces significant aliasing -Still there-

New issues found
- Solo Canyon campaign : the opponent selection screen shown before the map intro (the one where you see the opponents replays while selecting them) is displayed in 2D, the game switches back to 3D when you click "play"
- Multiplayer : 3D switches off everytime there is a loading screen even though the graphics menu believes 3D is still on (glasses slider to the right), you need to switch 3D off and then on again to restore 3D, at every multiplayer map loading. This bug is not new but had been fixed in a previous version and comes back now.

- Interlaced modes : Maniaplanet main menu is offset vertically, the cursor position does not match highlighted objects
- Side by Side modes : Windows inside the Maniaplanet main menu are zoomed in and do not fill the entire window area
- Side by side mode : a water reflection problem (see screenshot)

What needs to be tested (bugs from Maniaplanet 1.0)
Known bugs and issues
--> Bugs :
- 3D mode does not work in the map editor
- the game switches off 3D when you modify the bloom or motion blur setting.

--> issues for specific types of 3D displays :
- Nvidia 3D Vision : when the game's 3D mode switches off but 3D vision is still on, one eye view becomes black and you get a picture only in one eye.
- Nvidia 3D Vision : 3D switches off when racing in multiplayer
- Nvidia 3D Vision : 3D switches off on camera changes when watching a replay in the replay editor

--> suggestions for Nadeo :
- unlock the convergence ingame, allow us to customize the convergence setting for each view
- modify camera 3 default convergence setting : bring the foreground closer to the screen plane (possibly make it pop-out very slightly) to increase the sense of depth with this view
- change the menus to make the advanced 3D configuration available everywhere
- add support for other quad buffer based outputs : AMD HD3D (quad buffer), iZ3D driver (quad buffer), DDD Tridef (quad buffer)
- add support for checkerboard 3D displays
