Second day of playing, and there appears to be a ridiculous amount of lag on the USA East servers. I've tested West and East to try and find a reason for why Western servers are giving me a lot less lag than the Eastern servers, despite a higher ping to the server and the fact that I'm in Florida. What I've managed to deduce is that it's either tied to 5v5 Battle mode, or more likely it's a result of a large portion of the Eastern servers being occupied by French, Spanish, and Brazilian players. When 50% of the players aren't on the same continent, I'm pretty sure there are going to be some syncing issues.
For Brazilian players, I can understand. I talked to a few of them, and they mentioned a lack of servers in Brazil, so if anyone wants to set some up over there, the community would appreciate that. However, France has 20 dedicated servers, last I checked. I've tried to ask French and Spanish players why they are connecting overseas, but I haven't managed to get any to respond. If you're a European player that connects to USA East servers, could you give a reason why?

Re: Intense Lag on USA East Servers
Because there is no true EAST COAST servers. East Coast servers are located in Canada, Quebec. It would be nice if someone would host a dedicated Chicago server and post the name on the forums so we could actually enjoy this game and see how it feels without latency issues. Its pretty sad they wanna sell a game when they don't even have the server capacity for all the people in the beta at the moment in the U.S. West Coast is the same way. I have several friends I game with regularly out in Cali who stated those servers are shit for them as well. We average 140+ pings to all U.S servers. I'm in Ohio. I usually ping under 60 every where in the states but Cali where I ping 90 - 120. Been the same for 15 years. How can we test a game when we cant even play without 3/5 second delay?? Not to mention during certain points of the game my character will stop moving and sit still for a good 6 to 20 seconds as if I was disconnected. Happens randomly. I played 3 matches last night and it happened 4 times.
Re: Intense Lag on USA East Servers
I threw up a Texas server, basically the next-best thing to a Chicago server. It might be better for you than the official servers. I get 40 ping from Atlanta. It's not up at the moment, but it should be tonight and going forward from there.
It's the only server listed in Texas (GoonMania). Right now it's just running the three default Battle maps but I'm planning on adding more
Really, though, I haven't gotten *that* bad of consistent lag on the east coast servers, but a LOT of spikes on the West and East coast Battle servers.
And, btw, don't try to measure your ping from the server list, it's really inaccurate. Use the ping in-game by pressing the minus key to see it.

Re: Intense Lag on USA East Servers
I'm in southeastern Ontario and I'm still pinging ~70-90 to the eastern servers. I thought it was maybe my internet, but a check to some quake and UT servers in quebec is giving me pings around 30-50. Even the west coast servers on SM I seem to be pinging over 150 on average, whereas on a west coast quake server at the exact same time I ping around 90.
On a sidenote, I've had absolutely zero problems on joust and elite mode servers even with slightly higher pings. So, it may be something that's largely impacted by the number of players the SM servers can handle.
