If I wake up tomorrow and there's not a post from Nadeo outlining what they're doing to solve this problem I'm going to start submitting to reddit and other social media to get a bit of attention brought to this issue. Something absolutely needs to be done.

I agree that something has to be done, but you do realize that it is Sunday tomorrow, and that Nadeo also has to sleep, right?TheGrimLavaLamp wrote:If I wake up tomorrow and there's not a post from Nadeo outlining what they're doing to solve this problem I'm going to start submitting to reddit and other social media to get a bit of attention brought to this issue. Re: URGENT: Uninstallation deletes entire folder.
Of course I realize that, but the weekend is also peak gaming time and their first reaction was to completely blow this off and claim that there were no solutions which were both feasible and safe... I've now proposed 3 with no response. My first post was on a Thursday.
I'm trying to make their game better and their user base safer on a Saturday. I doubt I'm more committed than every member of their team. All I'm asking for is for them to say 'We're fixing it, it will be safe, and it will be done very soon.' Anything else, frankly, deserves attention from a wider audience because they're gambling with people's data and calling that 'working as intended'.

You had a direct response from Nadeo in this thread
They also have to find a good solution for this, which works for everyone, which has to be discussed internally, reviewed, tested and delivered, and all this needs time.
I can imagine that they will fix the uninstaller, as well as to give better messages at the installation.
In your case its already to late, unfortunately, but you forced the game to install files in a different folder.
Next time just let ManiaPlanet install in the proposed subdirectories, which are "ManiaPlanet" anyways, it was already like this in the alpha, and in the beta.

Re: URGENT: Uninstallation deletes entire folder.
The Nadeo response was "This is working as intended, but the warning message doesn't say what we want it to say." Which is a complete and total blowoff of a problem that is presently costing users data. 2 People already complained on the forums. How many more are going to lose data when they uninstall if it stays this way now? How many more lost data and don't know how it happened or didn't report it? This is a huge problem.
If this is actually their intended uninstaller behavior they need to either take my advice and add a mandatory '/maniaplanet' to the end of the install path or not allow user defined paths at all.
Better yet, they could write a good uninstaller like every other software company.
I'm not going to bother defending my installing to a different directory because the installer gave me the option and I didn't install to a dumb directory. A competently designed installer and uninstaller shouldn't ever delete anything other than the program's files. I don't consider isntalling to games risky behavior because I trust(ed) Ubisoft and Nadeo to not make an 'installer 101' error.

Re: URGENT: Uninstallation deletes entire folder.
The may be a mistake here. We made many tests and many games so far, and it never came to our hears and I have never been aware of such report (does not mean it never existed) Or it is a new issue in the beta.
Whatever, we will try to improve this asap.

Yeah, seriously, Nadeo, you have to change SOMETHING.
I would expect more than this from ANY game company, I mean, the least you could do is make it mandatory to create a subfolder called "maniaplanet" or something... but really, there are other methods of uninstall too.

Re: URGENT: Uninstallation deletes entire folder.
Our choice will be to force the use of a directories with *maniaplanet* in it. There are 3 directories and they can be cutomized, set in folder with rights, works with multiple profiles, on XP, Vista and Seven, and they update themselves thanks to the ingame updater. So, if we want to propose a clean uninstall, we have to proceed by removal of directories. This is why we will force the use of *maniaplanet* in the fullname. After this, we will also add a much better warning message at the uninstall, saying which directory, in fullname, is going to be deleted, with the 'are you sure'. Keep in mind that we also have multiple applications that can combine themselves with adding setup over other setup, in addition to the automatic updater. The PC is a complex platform and people ask for a lot of freedom of use. It is what makes the nice aspect but the toughest at the same time. We have to be really careful to decrease the amount of time bad things can happen and we are sorry to have been not enough careful. The operating system itself have not handled well these issues for years: install, update and clean applications in a dynamic way. Maniaplanet is a platform in itself and as soon as it leaves the common paths, it requires a lot of specific things to do. Platforms on platforms are always complicated to do ^^ At least, from now on, next setups from Nadeo will include the modifications described above.

Are you going to update the Shootmania installer to have this behavior?
