So today I was in the Shootmania map editor and I decided to make a symmetrical map, like the Nadeo Royal arenas. After I was happy with one corner of the map I wanted to copy-paste it four times, but it wasn't as easy as I expected. I know the copy-paste tool was pretty much meant for making symmetrical maps but I ran into all kinds of issues with the transitions between the corners and the terrain getting wacky, and in the end the map didn't end up like I intended. This could all be because of poor planning on my part, but all of these problems could easily be fixed with some kind of tool to make the map automatically update each corner of the map. For example if I place a hill in the top-right corner of the map, a hill will appear in every corner of the map. You could also make it symmetrical just down the middle for battle maps. Or you could use a "automatically rotate" option instead, so that it would take one corner/half, and rotate it around the middle instead of just flipping it. If you wanna get really crazy you could set the focal point of rotation on the map, or "draw" the line of symmetry. I know this just sounds like a time-saving tool (it would save SO much time), but it would REALLY help out beginners...almost anyone could end up making professional looking maps their second or third try. Plus it would be way easier to see how your symmetrical map will turn out in the end. And don't worry, you could always turn off the auto-symmetry whenever you want to make things a bit more interesting. So please, ya gotta implement this in, ya gotta.
tldr: Adding a tool to the Shootmania mapmaker that automatically updates each corner/side of the map in real-time will save time!
Sincerely,
A tired map-editor

Re: Mapmaker: Map auto-symmetry
sorry for the essay above...
I wonder if this idea could be implemented in through a plugin?...in which case I might actually be able to program this thing myself

Re: Mapmaker: Map auto-symmetry
You could probably do it through a plugin.
My biggest problem is copying tunnel entrances copies the entire map terrain.

Re: Mapmaker: Map auto-symmetry
I'd suggest you to make symmetrical terrain yourself, with the use of helpers. And then copy/past blocks.
Re: Mapmaker: Map auto-symmetry
I really think this is possible using ManiaScript. You can find out which block was placed and place it via script.
The only problem might be how to find out that the user deleted a block....

Re: Mapmaker: Map auto-symmetry
Yeah, I've tried different ways of doing that, but the problem is I can't visualize what the map is going to look/feel like very well if I do it that way...and then changing each side gets tedious. I'm a very lazy person to say the least...I'd suggest you to make symmetrical terrain yourself, with the use of helpers. And then copy/past blocks.
...but no matter, the interface is done, now I just have to do some number crunching

...but first homework
