Question on controllers

Post by Alexey85 »

Hello,
I haven't tried this game yet, so here is the question below.
I have a steering wheel, but not a dedicated rig for racing sims, so it became too much of a hassle to mount and dismount the wheel from the table. I know in some racing sims playing with a keyboard is plain rediculous, but this game is an arcade and it might differ a lot in that regard, so do you think it is worth to get a controller for this game or you can be competitive with a keyboard with guys who use suitable controllers? The most I can deal with now is a compact controller that I can easily leave aside at the table after the game, so that it would not interfere. If a controller makes significant difference, could you recomment one because I know nothing about this. Finally, it would be good to know whether this game supports steering wheels, just in case.
Thanks!

playing TM with steering wheel most be one of the most ridiculous things ever :roflol: you can be good at keyboard, but a bit better on gamepad.

I can`t tell you anything about steering wheels but usually it is easier to be fast by using a gamepad than by using a keyboard. You can be just as fast with a keyboard but it requires more training or talent ^^
In Canyon there is no big difference but in other and possibly in future environments it can be quite big (depending on the handling of the car).

Go for the gamepad/controller. My game in TM has improved no end since using one. I personally use a Sony Ps1/2 controller with a Ps1/2 to USB converter. Its a strong reliable gamepad but I hear players using the Xbox controller to great effect.
Two bits of advice tho ..

1. Don't use a cheap, flimsy gamepad. TM is tough on pads and cheapies break easy.

2. Don't allocate your Quit/Retire or Respawn to a gamepad button, keep it on the keyboard where you won't accidently hit it.

Hope this helps

The Saitek P2500 (or 2600) is really good, I have both and from experience they are pretty indestructible. They have analog sticks if you prefer from d-pad (which they have also) Also really easy to open up and clean should you decide to wash it in a soft drink :)

You can be fast independent of your gaming device. I know players that drove very good with a wheel on canyon and I know players that switched to KB (after being very good on other environments with a wheel).
For myself, I'm switching between a joystick and a KB at the moment, depending on track style :) But maybe I'll be joystick only again in the future, if the new environments are more sensitive than canyon.
