maybe better for a random map downloader on TMX or even in game to give every users track a change to be playedhugocool wrote:I was thinking of something like a trackgenerator the other day.
Wouldn't that be really cool? You'd be on the menu, restless, and then you'd be like "Nah, let's do a random track".
And then, you would click on a button, and then all of a sudden, you'd race a map that you have never played before.
Now, these maps wouldn't be saved, so you cannot use them in track contests! (Sorry, trackbuilding n00bs)
Maybe this would work for QM and SM too

That's a good idea, ripbox! Way better than the random map generator

Big fan of Daft Punk.
Re: Map generator!
This idea is even better because I could be implement to TMX(NF/UF) right now

Re: Map generator!
I worked on a random track generator for TMU in 2008, but I only got as far as 1 environment (desert) with only 1x1 blocks. Getting the rotation of the big blocks right was the stumbling block. It was fun to mess with though

Re: Map generator!
I'd like to see a random terrain generator to create a nice landscape where I can build my track on. Similar to the simple track editor mode in TMU, but random and for the full editor.
I'm a bit too lazy to create a full terrain myself everytime, so this could come useful for me.
As for the original idea: It would be a waste of code for me. If I want a random track I build one myself. If I want a random one I don't know, I download one.
Also a random track algorithm would be way more complex than a random terrain one.

But if i understand it right, then the terrain will form itself according to the pieces you are using. Therefore, even if you create a random landscape, when you start placing pieces, the terrain will rearrange.TheStalker wrote:I'd like to see a random terrain generator to create a nice landscape where I can build my track on. Re: Map generator!
Hmm,you got a point there. I can remember that somewhere was an announcement, where they talked about a "terraforming" function in TM2 (seems to be at the TM2 presentation on the "Festival du Jeu Video" 2009). Sadly, i can only find the 6 min video with subtitles, but on the article at the german block, it is listed as a feature which was mentioned at the presentation. But since then, there was nothing new about this. But there was a little discussion in the german part on the forum, so i might have mixed things (true or just fictional discussion) in my head.

No, what I mean is a pre-built random terrain before you build your track. Like when you build a track in 'simple mode' (or whatever it's called) in TMU, you start with mountains, houses, trees etc. I'd like to see something like this for the advanced (the normal) editor, except that the terrain is randomly generated.tcq wrote:But if i understand it right, then the terrain will form itself according to the pieces you are using. Like this:
1. click 'new Track'. The game will ask if you would like to start with a random terrain.
2. click yes.
3. You're in the Track editor, with a nice landscape with hills, trees, houses, etc.
4. You build your Track on the existing landscape. (you can remove/edit everything of course)
