Movement and Aiming system.

Post by iBurley »

Alright, so I was on the beta for this game a while back (when it just came out of alpha, actually) and I thought the movement and aiming system was just odd, but I blamed it on being such an early beta and just got used to it a bit to the point where I could play. So I just got into the beta for another month and the overall feel hasn't changed. I guess I just wanted to know, does the game feel very sluggish to anybody else?

And by this I do not mean that sprint and jump should be on different buttons, i understand that was done for a reason and I sort of like the idea. I mean like air acceleration feels unpredictable, aiming seems to sometimes have acceleration and other times not, it just isn't consistent. I feel like a game geared toward esports should have a more streamlined feel. Maybe it's just me, but I think the movement needs to be worked on before a lot of people play this game. It doesn't matter how much a game is geared towards competitive play, the only way it ends up at tourneys like IEM is when it has a large fanbase and a good number of pro players supporting it. I feel like with the way the game currently feels, people won't be attracted to this game, and I really want them to.

I'm sorry I can't give more specific examples on what I mean, but to me it just feels off. As an example, if anybody played the version of Nexuiz released on Steam (not the old Linux quake mod that's now called Xonotic) it had a similar, almost "slippery" feel to the movement, and I feel like that's a huge reason that the game is baron. Hopefully somebody out there has some idea of what I'm talking about and can explain it better than I am. Let me know what you think, does it feel right to you, or a bit funky?

Anybody have an opinion on this? Am I correct? Incorrect?

I guess this is all going to be based on personal experience with the game, but no I haven't noticed any inconsistencies in the movement or aiming. Same for Nexuiz as well. That game is empty for a lot of different reasons, mainly the huge amount of bugs at release, no dedicated servers, lag issues, etc. There was a lot wrong with that game.
