Canyon vs titles

Post by Nesrally »

Today I posted this in MX forum, but find it appropriate also to post it here, and hopefully have some answer from Nadeo itself about the plan and further development of this great new addition to the game;
eyebo says:
I've heard rumblings that ManiaPark will release their own title with some objects. That would be great. To be honest, the freedom of how you can place objects mean they are, in most cases, much more flexible to use than blocks. I've seen what a few very creative authors have done with the pillar objects provided by Nadeo in the Elite Exp title pack and I'm extremely impressed with the creative potential.

True, it's harder now for individual users to test out new objects without them being already included in a title pack, but I think the trade off is worth it, because it means there's consistency between all players who use that pack. You don't have to worry if the user you send the map to has the object or not. If he's playing in the title with you, then he has the objects.

I agree that the freedom to place objects much more flexible then bounded to the grid is great... But ur second statement about consistency and not having to worry about other user have that particular object is a bit overstated. It is in fact as now... Even I have raid already, when i try to download a replay from another player to race against, I still get the message; u need the object xxxx to play this track... coz lack of specific metadata in the pack to identify a title, it still opens .gbx files automatically in Canyon.... So, it could easily be like that with ordinary track made in canyon and with new object also. As of now, the title does not make any difference imo, as far as i can see now, after playing the titles since they was released. It`s just more complicated to be able to use new object in tracks and upload here on MX, having to release it as a title. It is more time-consuming in it`s building stage, and more time consuming in its maintenance stage after release. And when we know most of the players are busy with they're job, family, education etc., then it`s not hard to understand it slows down the release of new tracks with new object....

And what if i want to make just ONE track with new objects? Then i have to make a title for it ! ! ! And when we know the total amount of slots for new titles is 3, and then to be able to install new titles, we have to buy 3 new for the amount of 5000 planets ! ! ! How many u think will do that just to play a new track from a player with some new objects ? ? ? This, imo, sucks.....

Everything I see and experience in the title RAID could easily be done in canyon. It`s different with Stunters, coz it`s a different racing game and based on point in stead of time. It would be different if Nadeo had a complete "title solution" ready, where everything needed was there, including metadata for separation of each title, and if new slots for new titles was totally free. But, as of now, they don`t have. And as we know Nadeo, it might take quite a time for them to make it work.

Now, all this taken into consideration, what is the big benefit of titles compared to just new objects in canyon ?

You raise some interesting points but I think I will have to side with Nadeo on this one. It may seem a bit redundant to have all these titles with very trivial differences (ie one or two custom objects). But keep in mind that its only been a month or two and these things take time to develop. Sure, I would rather have knowledge that more titles are being worked on for sure rather than being surprised by them when they are finished. Never rule out the possibility of Nadeo also making some custom titles for TM as they have done for SM, too. In short, put on the waiting cap, and wait this one out. :pop:

You can also install and uninstall titles as they are used and no longer used. So, it doesn't necessarily mean you have to buy more stations every time you get something new.

I uninstalled some shootmania title packs (joust and heroes) that I no longer use so that I could install mr.dvd's title pack and the raid title pack.

Yeah, that might be a solution....but there will be many titles in the future....valley, coast, a.s.o..... especially when everyone who likes to include new objects in his maps, have to make a title in order to do so... That`s my point....

I can understand it when it comes to totally different styles, like stunters, but not when it comes to canyon maps where the only difference is some new objects....which could easily be implemented in canyon itself in new updates.....or downloaded separated and put in the right folder..

I think, in the long run, more and more racers will abandon canyon and race only other titles, when new beautiful and useful objects are to be found only in those titles..... and not in Canyon it self... Is not this to shot ur self in the foot? :teub:

dvds pack is ok, but only some maps in there.
@stunters, iFail, it´s not my pack, lol.

where I get the raid pack?

on topic: :1010

additionaly: I dont like the titles, I want only trackmania with build in maniaplanet like on V.1!
dreaming is allowed, right?

whatever titles for objects s***s alot, I don´t want it this way!
but, who cares about what I want lol.
Nadeo will focus their plans and we have to use what they give us.

I agree with this.
But I have a even bigger complain. In my opinion this titles thing cuts the community into several "groups", basicly you see less players online in your game to play with.
I wish they would make it possible to add a object to your map file, so you can play it in the normal canyon title.
