Re: TRACKMANIA² Stadium - Your Opinions
That's interesting Omnixor, but in that track... he doesn't change direction on the vertical part. It's similar yes, but... the specific characteristics of Canyon is what makes tracks like Nimrod's vertical experiment completely unique to the Canyon environment. My point was that the physics are not interchangeable. It's true that the track matters a lot, but the physics also give each environment a unique feel. If that wasn't true, then why haven't all Stadium players already converted to Canyon? And why have many that tried Canyon went back to Stadium? It's the physics. They're different. And they do matter. And it's the reason why separated environments will, in the end, work.
If you were able to go back in time and force all Stadium players to play on multi-environment servers, even for free, I really doubt that the game (Nations) would have become as popular as it did.
Personally, I'm really excited to get back into RPG tracks, because I prefer the Stadium physics (over Canyon) for that specific style of tracks and niche of driving.

Beautifully said.eyebo wrote:Your point sir, is rendered invalid.scaramoosh wrote:not like none of the Canyon maps couldn't be in Stadium....
I do agree with the idea that more players would be in ManiaPlanet if it were on Steam. But I think Nadeo is carving their own path. Games can be successful without Steam. Look at Minecraft, for instance. Over 8,000,000 accounts, just in the PC/Mac version alone.
ManiaPlanet is still very young. Nadeo has said all along that they want to start gradually with this new system, and slowly grow it, both in features, and number of players.
Rome wasn't built in a day.
Let me raise a point here:
The TM Community would miss a decent part without the active posters like e.g. you eyebo and all the others I don't even try to mention. You have the high attitude I miss in my social life and which I can (nearly) only find here. I guess there's a special warm feeling if somebody reads your words and gives you either recognition or critic, which keeps you on still helping and talking with trackmaniacs.
I admire you, eyebo, by how you keep your language between others who give you the hardest critics! Thumbs up!

Re: TRACKMANIA² Stadium - Your Opinions
Thanks for the encouragement Killa and Fix.
The level of civility and enthusiasm by many posters here is also what keeps me around. It's really nice to be able to have a discussion and see different points of view without things devolving into heated arguments with people resorting to name calling, as they do in so many other areas of the internet. *cough* YouTube *cough*

Re: TRACKMANIA² Stadium - Your Opinions
As far as I can recall, some stated ManiaPlanet and Stream conflict with one another so Steam can't be used. I believe ManiaPlanet to be Nadeo's own version of steam but only for use with Nadeo games (I could be wrong here). I've no trouble at all trying to find the download link or login tho I must agree about the UI.scaramoosh wrote:While you know about the game I bet loads don't, have a free weekend on Steam and it's basically amazing advertising to the 5 million people who are on Steam at any one time during the peak, I mean how many people use Steam? Like 40 million? I'd much rather install through Steam, just something nice about clicking a button and there it is. Everytime I go back to TrackMania 2 I struggle to find the download link, like I struggle to find the account login lol.
You're completely wrong on this point I'm afraid. The car handling physics on Stadium is, and will be on TM2 Stadium, completely different to Canyons, just as Valley will be different to both Canyons and Stadium. This in turn completely changes the gameplay. Different handling for different environments ..... Just like TM1 (TMUF)scaramoosh wrote:I don't see why anyone would go "I like Stadium but I hate Canyon so I want them to be separate games" they're only backgrounds, pointless to the gameplay, only the track matters, not like none of the Canyon maps couldn't be in Stadium....
It would be like having a separate BF3 game for each DLC....... it just wouldn't work.

Please stop and do not start again debating all the time about Steam here, since there are enough threads about Steam elsewhere
Search.

Re: TRACKMANIA² Stadium - Your Opinions
what about adding podium?
Re: TRACKMANIA² Stadium - Your Opinions
My thoughts on this 'new' stadium:
- It generally looks quite nice, maybe slightly less buggy in normal racing.
- Bloom settings are too high.
- Driving on grass reduces the framerate too much.
- I'd like to see the podium screen back - I enjoyed the custom cars and you don't really see them without the podium screen.
- The round timer should be more prominent or in a different place. Or should be removable so that xaseco2 can put on their own customisable versions. (I haven't fully looked into the capabilities of this...)
- I like that you can just put TMUF tracks into TM2.
- You can't make an 'indoors' or covered up track in day-time any more - it's just too dark. Works fine at night though, but slightly restricts what sort of tracks you can make.
