As everyone knows, the game just doesn't have enough people to be a successful e-sport title. I don't expect it to have enough yet either. But when open beta comes rolling around, and some players join in and see only a few servers up. With NONE of the other game modes besides elite and royal, that's when we will start to see a problem. Casuals are going to lose interest and stop playing.
Come open beta, we need to do our part and share/link the open beta sign up nearly every day, no joke. The more people that see it the better. If you know anyone with lots of following, shit Id'e be willing to donate some money to pay out someone to plug shootmania on their twitter/livestream a few times. Also, when open beta releases, we need to get the other game modes going. I know some of us play the game nearly all day on elite and don't always want to play the game any more after that, but we need to make some time for the casuals. If new players come into this game seeing that the pro community is helping people out, that's gonna give shootmania a good rep, and bring in a lot more people.

Re: We need to get more people playing
Hey man,
I really like your involvement
and you are totally right. I can see you really care!
I was in a COD clan before with 25people and I already had 10members buy SM.
The other 15 will be playing the open BETA.
Im also convincing some of my friends... There is not more that I can do
And if new players decide to play ELITE then they shouldnt play vs PRO's. Because Elite is superrrrrr difficult.
Maybe Nadeo should make some noobservers or something. ( Well , maybe it isnt a good idea )
Anyways I hope Nadeo creates some publicity and that game gets popular^^

Re: We need to get more people playing
well, they kind of already have a skill level system right next to the servers. But I feel like new players don't even know what it means. Nadeo needs to put beginner tips in the game that tell you how to use the interface and what things do what. Just things to guide new players in the right direction.
Re: We need to get more people playing
There's already a way of making servers limit who can and cannot join a server based on rank (I believe). The problem is not many does this simply because the community isn't big enough (It is closed beta after all)dreammyw0w wrote: And if new players decide to play ELITE then they shouldnt play vs PRO's. Well, the thing about Elite and pro/good/better players is they should help out new players when they join Elite servers. You can do a lot to add to them getting a positive experience even if they get owned straight away. For instance, I can't count the times I've seen someone either votekicking someone on their own team for not playing good enough, or just openly flame them
This doesn't help, but some people will always act like this I guess. Instead what I do is try and give people pointers and explain the basics to them while they're on the server. (atleast something like proper staminause). Telling them to find servers with lower ranked people in a nice way doesn't hurt either

In general, be nice and helpful to new players and you might get a few extra players actually sticking with Elite and enjoying it instead of running straight to (or back to) other modes.
This would also help a lot. Before ping-change you actually had to explain to some people who had been playing it for some time that they had to use ping. Or bring up the mouse-cursor ingame (that even took me forever to find out because no one told me). Some don't know how to use horn. Or bounce rockets. Or that standing on speedblocks recharge rockets/laser a bit faster. Etc.gregomyeggo wrote:well, they kind of already have a skill level system right next to the servers. Just yesterday I had a player ask on a server how to use the horn he had created. I asked if he had selected it in his profile. He had not. Then he asked "Where do I find Profile?". (Ok, this example might not be relevant since finding profile should be obvious, but you get my point)
There's just so many small things that can easily be explained either by using tooltips or some kind of help-section ingame. Hell, you can even use the ingame editor to create a short movie that explains the basics of each mode, can't you? You might even be able to outsource this to players within the community for some kind of reward in return?
For instance a movie that displays ghosts playing the mode and some text to explain the mode and maybe some basic gameplay-tips. Surely that shouldn't be difficult to do within shootmanias editor itself?
I know we're asking a lot from you Nadeo, but we care and only want to see the game grow and succeed

I hate to admit this but im GUILTY. It depends on the mood im in. Sometimes I really try to let people play better, sometimes I votekick.

True, trying to do this. Especially when friends are playing.

I agree... How some blocks work or how you to need to ping/horn should be better explained.
Its both on the same key... After 3weeks of playing I figured out that you had to 'ping the air' to horn.

In all modes you start in a spawn. "Press F1 to read the rules" and they'll appear on that spawnboard. This solves the problem you are saying about the gamemodes... Your suggestion is unnecessary.

Something else : Experienced players RUSH new players. It's instinct. You press tab & see their ranking... Ow its above 2000, Im gonna rush. Just like that.
In CounterStrike there were some maps with a border you couldnt cross or you would die. This may be a nice feature to implement. But again its not necessary if there are servers with a MaxRank.
OT :
People : Tell your friends about the beta and let them play it.
Nadeo : Advertise ( youtube, gamingsites , in ur other games, at lan events , twitch, ... )
Re: We need to get more people playing
In my opinion Nadeo could open some InstantGribLaser server and Melee (with rockets) for the public beta cause noobs will be lost and bored about the elite mod wich is very difficult for a casual.
On each elite server it will be 2 ranks < 100 with 4 ranks > 6000 LOL ! To be onwed will not be fun for noobs so the idea to start some Melee servers and InstantGribLaser servers will allow casuals to adapt themself on this new game.
no ?

True
Re: We need to get more people playing
Well its gonna be hard since its not newbie friendly.. i just downloaded this game,, and besides it being okay... i dont understand it at all. its all very low quality and confusing... anyone want to help me out please add me same name as user
Re: We need to get more people playing
Definitely need more people... I just started playing and about the only games I can find are Elite, which doesn't really suit me. Am I just missing something, or are there no deathmatch or capture the flag type servers running?
The ManiaPlanet GUi doesn't make much sense to me. When I click on Shootmania Storm, then select multiplayer (is there even a single player??) all I see are Elite and Royal. Some say exp, but I have no idea what that is. The new Realm mode sounds great, I'd love to try that.
I know the public beta hasn't even started yet, and the game is still very new. However, I just wanted to voice my thoughts somewhere.

Re: We need to get more people playing
I also should say that I find the gameplay to be boring. I found a royal exp server with 20 people. I'm new to the game, and new to the map. I get killed quickly. So then I have to wait for all of the other players to be eliminated, which is a snorefest to watch because they just run around waiting for their 1 or 2 shots of ammo to reload.
It's a catch-22 for newbies. I can't learn the game because I get killed so quickly, but I can't practice in order to get better.
