Petition: Bring back old ManiaHome

The old version of ManiaHome that was around in beta 2 was very useful. You could view your ManiaHome announcements, see who's playing what, and a lot more. But the new ManiaHome is just an address bar that adds no additional functionality over the Manialink browser's own address bar. Please bring back the old ManiaHome so we have a useful homepage.

The old page won't come back since maniahome is now included in the home of each title.

also thnx i dont really mind losing the old page just wanted the same functions IE favourites. and couldnt find it on the title home page

Actually, I can't do that. There's a lot more about the old ManiaHome than just the favorites. Just to name a few, there was a ManiaPub ad (useful for becoming aware of new content), a friends list that told you where they were playing, the ManiaHome manager for posting announcements, a server list that doesn't cache for as long as the in-title list (useful for when you're restarting a server), the beginning of a groups listing, and a couple other things I'm forgetting because I can't look it up anymore. If I can get that functionality back, I'd be fine with a change in the front-end that's merely graphical.

There's also a lot to be said for being able to see all of your ManiaHome announcements in one place, and it'll be even more useful once I get my ManiaLive plugins made that would announce a player's achievements on a server. On the TM2 side, think local records, race wins, and lottery/bet wins. I don't care for SM, so I'll let someone else decide what is worthy of bragging about in a ManiaHome announcement on that side of things.

I understand you anger, but please bear in mind we are in beta and we need to make some sacrifices in order to eventually bring the best experience to the players. So i'm going to answer the points you talked about, let's hope you understand.

Now you have it in the chat (buddy icon in the maniaplanet toolbar on the top). It's even better than before because it's realtime (it used to have a few minutes of cache in maniahome).

Manialink "maniahome:manager". Yes I know there's no link to that right now, we'll put it somewhere.

a server list that doesn't cache for as long as the in-title list (useful for when you're restarting a server)

The server list is exactly the same (same backend services). Cache values are the same.

the beginning of a groups listing

Not sure what this will become. Let's be honest, it wasn't the most useful feature.

and a couple other things I'm forgetting because I can't look it up anymore.

Or because it wasn't THAT important Let me know if you think os something that you really miss though.


In the end, do not worry too much: ManiaHome is not gone, it just takes a break to become better!

Dunno if its the right place to ask...
In the maniahome manager, when i create a event or when i want to post a news, i have to chose a server to talk to people who favorited it, but i'd love to talk to everyone who favorited any of my servers (6 servers) because of course, some favorited one, and some more.
To not be flooded by news/events in maniahome, it would be cool to be able to send a message from multiple servers but this message has to be displayed only once.

(I can explain in french if you dont get me ^__^')

I've added a few links : bookmarks, maniaflash, maniapub and maniahome manager to the page

@Tipiizor: this is a good idea but quite hard to implement. I still keep it in mind for the future evolutions of maniahome
