[B3.1][Stadium] Suggestion: Competition campaign

Post by znik »

Competition Map-pack / Campaign

A widely discussed topic in TrackMania and competition scenario is map-packs. The Nadeo series A0 , B0 , C0 etc have often been used in on-site competitions and smaller offline events, often because this is the maps that new beginners know from the game, thus making it easier and faster to use in quick / unannounced events.

I remember the Star Edition update for TrackMania Nations Forever, which included community made maps. I think this idea would be great to implement into the core of the game, instead of a later update. For example, a separated "Competition" campaign along side with "White", "Green", "Blue", "Red" and "Black" would be the perfect solution to quicker on-site / unannounced events, and would also be the perfect challenge for the more advanced drivers. The pack could for example consist of 5 tech maps, 5 speed maps and 5 dirt maps.

Similar to Counter-Strike and other fps-games which has a few maps mainly for competition, I think this could be positive towards competitions and make it easier for smaller / quicker tournaments to pick up TrackMania 2 Stadium.

It wouldn't necessarily be much work for you. Just announce on the forum that within a specified date, players are free to send maps that fits in either of the categories, tech, speed or dirt, and a jury will pick out 5 of the best suited maps which will be included in the official competition campaign. I would definitely call this a win-win situation, and would be a perfect example of how important community is to the game.

Yep, definitely a good idea.

It would be great if this was a co-operation between Nadeo and the community so it's "official". But even if Nadeo wouldn't be interested in helping out, I still think something like this is very needed in the competitive community, so would like to see it either way.

Yeah, this is a great feauture for sure, but the clue was to have an official competition campaign in the core of the game, because otherwise everyone has to actively download the title pack in order to achieve the maps (Or am I wrong?).

Anyway, if the maps are not somehow included in the core installation, the main point of my idea disappears.

Well this might depend on the supporting purpose of NADEO (and Ubi). So far, we know only one official major partner, which is Zotac cups (GA and ESWC for LANs f.e.)
NADEO is simply not interested in ESL organised official major tournaments. Sad thing that it got dropped. Who knows the future for Stadium...
