Bugs i had :
- I was playing and a guy in my game left -> back to lobby ( I didn't left the match), I'm banned for 2mins ...
- I'm playing on the lobby and suddenly I'm banned for 2mins for no reason
- I had friends as ally they pressed F6 but I was send to a server without them

Tip :
- You should do a Lobby for american players ( and for the other continents ^^ ) cause it's very laggy in the lobby ^^

The currently running version is kinda weird, you don't spawn at all in the lobby (map changed with only 2 spawns and 2 poles? are you working on a team mode? :P ) and sometimes the gamemode gui (menu on the right side etc.) is missing. You also see no players when you press Tab.

Except from that, I definetely played more proper matches than ones that got randomly aborted tonight

Can you also make a JOUST lobby feedback topic?
I have a lot to report. Ty.

****EDIT : this would also work for Elite. So you'd kill 2flies with 1stone.

Okay here we go:

WHAT IS JOUST?
1n1 awesome gamemode mostly played on small maps. Hit the enemy with rockets. Reload at the poles. The first to 7 hits wins. (min 2 points difference, maximum 11points)

PROBLEMS:
-Small maps & fast-paced gameplay make the games short.
-Finding an opponent:
--> Look for an empty server and waiting till some1 joins is a problem. Waiting is bad.
--> A lot of servers are full/empty.
--> Multiple slots servers are good, but beginning players must wait to play 80% of the time! Waiting is bad.
Newer players always lose and sometimes get 30seconds of gaming and 10minutes of waiting. Waiting is bad.

SOLUTION: ***MATCHMAKING***
How matchmaking should work imo :

1) When joining a matchmaking lobby, let us know how it works and what is expected of the player.
Show the player a popup ( before connecting to the server ) explaining the following :
- what will happen
- how matchmaking works
- how penalties work.
- how long a game can take.
Give us the option "never show again" ( just like the add to favorites popup )

2) Join a matchmaking lobby with a good waiting game.Make the waiting FUN!!
Use a good map to wait: A small map when only 10players are playing with 4spawns.
When more players join the map should change to a bigger map with more spawns.
A dynamic change of maps depending on the number of players.

currently : 30waiting players on a map with 2spawns = pure chaos and no fun. It makes me leave the matchmaking.

3) Ready up automatically.Press F6/button to accept a found match.
Why else would you join a Matchmaking server? This means the looking for a match can start instantly. Let the player know a match is found and let him press a button/F6 to accept this match. If he cancels he gets back in the queue but other players are matched first.

currently : 60% of the players in the matchmaking havent pressed F6.

4) The matching & balancing should be LP or Rank based.
Match me with players of my rank.

5) 2 maps minimum & let the players choose the maps.
When both players have joined the new server give them the choice to choose a map. I know there are hundreds of maps, so let us choose out of 5maps. ( for example the zotac maps ) This will also be good if you, as a player, are training one specific map.
If both players choose a different map then the player with the lowest rank gets his map first. The 2nd map will be the others players choice. Or let it be with a toss.
( you already have this code!! The toss, the mapselection. Ive seen it on Elite servers. Reuse code for Joust please.)
If its 2-0. The game is over.
If its 1-1 then a deciding map will be played.

currently : The 2 players join and you get a split second to vote for a map. Before you can tell the other player to press F1 the match is already starting. Also browsing menus is not fun.
Its also a fact that players love to play their map. The map they want. The map they feel comfortable with. The map where they feel they might win. Also not all maps are good so If you get forced to play a map you dont like then the game-experience will be bad. The player is the boss.

Also matches sometimes only take like 2minutes. The connecting to the matchmaking lobbies, finding a server , finding an enemy, redirecting to the matchmaking lobbies, matches that get aborted take sooooo much time in comparison to the actual time playing the actual game.
It should be 1min searching vs 10minutes playing on a map you like. ( not the other way round )

--------------------------------------------------------

This is how matchmaking should work imo. I know you let users host their own matchmaking servers so actually THEY ( the serveradmins ) get all the power and will eventually decide how it will work, but I strongly suggest that you consider my suggestion because now ( and I know its in Beta ) the matchmaking isnt that super. I mean, joining a regular server is better than the matchmaking atm.
I believe that , if it would work like this, all joust players will use the matchmaking.

PS : I know this isnt easy to realise, but what im asking is pretty basic. Im not asking for anything special. This is matchmaking 101.

I hope this helps cuz I did my best.

Nice post, I agree in every point, although I'd rather play just 1 map, like it is for now.

But more importantly, the basics need to be stable. The lobby gameplay needs a fix:
- It's laggy
- Sometimes you don't spawn
- One time nobody could move

Regarding the frequent abortion of matches, it seems that there are not enough players sent to a server. One time I was even alone. You can also see this in the chat: "LobbyInfo: Player1 & Player2 & Player3 join their match server." And shortly after that, they enter the lobby again, because they were only 3.

Well the finding of an opponent takes longer than the actual playing...This shouldnt be the case :) Besides a match with 3maps = maximum 15-20minutes (incl the finding of the opponent.) I honestly think this is not too long.

And yes, basic things should be stable first. Couldnt agree more.

I've joined the elite lobby, 12 people readied and no-one is in a game. Whatever the match making algorithm is using isn't scaling the skill gap fast enough to get players into games.
I don't mind having a game against people not my skill level if it means I can join a game within 20minutes but I've been in the lobby for the best part of 20 minutes with 12-15 readied people and it's not throwing anyone a game.

When you finally get into the game all it takes is one person to leave and you've got another 20min wait on your hands, people make it so that if you are already in a game with 4-6 players it instead invites players to fill those slots rather than taking you out of the game just to take you back in.

Due to some instability of our lobby. I turn it off, for at least the night. I hope to solve those problems in a few days.
