[B3.1] Map icons not always there when from other games

Post by TMarc »

 When I start ManiaPlanet, e.g. to load a Canyon map for editing,
only all Canyon maps have the Canyon icon Image, but both Stadium and Storm maps have Image icon.

 If I then exit Canyon and go to Stadium, all Canyon maps Image and all Stadium maps Image show up properly in the list, while Storm maps still seem to be unkown Image.

 When I finally exit Stadium and go to the Storm Editors to load a Storm map, only now all maps have their correct symbols for Canyon Image, Stadium Image and Storm Image

:!: I just tried after closing and restarting ManiaPlanet a few times:
The other games maps are always unknown, unless you go to the respective load map menu of each game.
Then this is stored only for the time you're running ManiaPlanet.

Of course I one uses separate folders right from the beginning, then it is no problem.
But ManiaPlanet should do that itself directly, as it is already separating the skins.

This and other issues like these are a result of the fact that the game doesn't unload a collection/title after exit.

I don't know if this is a bug, a dirty hack for something or only done to speed up the user interface.
And I don't know if there is something like a garbage collection that unloads a collection/title if the memory becomes low.

I was not talking of unloading, but of loading
Or do you expect that all games only recognize their own data, and show "unknown type" for anything else?
This would be bad, loading a few different icons should not take to much memory,
neither a list of game types should, unless you really have thousands of maps in your folder :|

I fear that. For example it looks to me, that the game editor object doesn't know if it is currently edit a Canyon map or a Stadium map. And the map loader object that checks the lightmaps has no idea if the map is a Canyon map or a Stadium map.

All icons, vehicles, blocks and textures of a collection are stored in their own packages. And these packages are loaded only if the user opens the title the first time. I am not sure that all icons of all collections are stored in the ManiaPlanet package. If so, than this is really a bug.

yes, it looks like the game separation went too far - or was not done properly yet.
All those "basics" should be delivered with the generic ManiaPlanet package, especially a few icons more wouldn't harm there. ;)
