Oculus Rift Support?

Oculus Rift Support?
I was thinking about how amazing it'd be to play track mania with VR support, seeing everything flying by you at ridiculous pod racer speeds and things. I imagine it would require a new field of view or maybe even an in car camera, but the ability to look around instantly could make trackmania a whole new game.

I'd like to see that too ^_^. But I guess it's not a priority...

First post in this forum, signed in just to say this:
I would very much like to see support for the Oculus Rift.. Actually I'm practically begging you, I nearly nerdgasm just thinking about it. Every review I've seen have been very positive, I haven't heard of anyone that have tried the rift who think that it is not the future of gaming.
I'm certain that Nadeo would profit, financially speaking, from adding support as well. There is a game called The Gallery which is being developed for the rift specifically, not just as some add-on. They recently had a kickstarter campaign, and they raised over 80k dollars and more than 1000 copies were preordered.

This shows that the niche is not very small any longer and that there is real interest. I know of many people, myself included, who would gladly pay 5x the normal price for Trackmania if it had rift support (I already own it though). The Oculus SDK takes care of most of the dirty work, so adding support would only take a few weeks of work according to Valve who recently added Rift support for TF2.
I was wondering if anyone at Nadeo had ordered a developer kit yet? If not you definitely should, $300 is extremely cheap for such a potential game changer, and I'm sure that once you try it you'll probably be convinced

Re: Oculus Rift Support?
quite possible, it certainly depends on how the game is done, e.g. the game engine, and if everything is really 3D, and to find out where objects are not placed well.
Since ManiaPlanet already has support for 3D, I think this is already a good base.
How much really has to be modified, no one knows, not even Nadeo people.
But I'm not sure if such a 3D system where you rather have move your head instead of the mouse as fast as in ShootMania will be good for your neck

Re: Oculus Rift Support?
That's not really a long time. I'm confident that Oculus rift support will sell them at least a thousand extra copies. A pretty nice profit for only a few weeks of work.Omnixor wrote:ONLY a few weeks?
It might even take less than a few weeks because stereoscopic 3D is already built into the game. Maybe even independent head tracking as well, at least there is an option in TM2:S called "Enable Head Track".
Re: Oculus Rift Support?
There's one reference under 3D glasses settings, right below "Mode". There's also another reference under Input settings > Edit bindings > Page 2TMarc wrote:Sure? Where exactly?grixm wrote:at least there is an option in TM2:S called "Enable Head Track".
I can't get it to work using the mouse though, no idea how it functions.
Re: Oculus Rift Support?
ah i deleted my post while you were writing, as I also found it. sorry for any confusion here
yes, this options seems to have no effect at all, unless the reset of key bindings after the last update has broken my keys
Perhaps it was to make the helmet of the driver in TMN move around according to the direction of the car, so it might be a leftover.
Or Nadeo reserves us some surprises we don't dream of yet

Re: Oculus Rift Support?
Just registered to add my support to the thread. Spent hours upon hours in TM, and seeing as my Rift kit will be shipped in the next couple of weeks...TM support would be awesome.

Re: Oculus Rift Support?
I plan on purchasing a Rift when they are available for non-developers. The VR capabilities of the Rift along with the awesome gameplay of Trackmania Stadium (my favorite game-mode) pretty much can't fail.
On top of that, adding Rift support to Trackmania would make it much easier for me to convince my friends to buy the game.
