Well... I pay, but i can play the game?

Post by rudiporto »

Hey Guys

Shootmania now its a great game. I love it. But i can´t play. It´s impossible. I Like Elite Mode too much, but i can´t play. We dont have Brazilian Servers, and the best servers to play is North American. But when im playing, the guys complain about the ping, lag, and tell to me get out of the Servers. One guy say that im playing too bad ( its what i can do with ping 200) and vote to kick me. I took a Screenshoot of the player...

rent a server and host a brazil server if you would like to have a low ping.

Yeah I think that's the only solution... I don't think that's a bad behaviour from the guys who wanted to kick you. A laggy player in Elite is really in pain in the ass and kind of ruins the game.. But I'm on you side ans I would be frustrated too if I couldn't play.

Like BigG said, one solution could be to rent your own server. But that could be a fail too if there are not much players in you zone. Do you know if there's a bit of a community in your country or in south america ?

Otherwise, another solution could be to get a better internet connection if you can. That would allow you maybe to play on NA servers without lags. I'm from EU and I can play on NA servers without lags. I've got an optical fiber connection running at 100mb/s, but I think that the big ocean internet cable between EU and NA is quite big so that allows a high speed transfer too.

Not sure how fast your connection is, the only thing that worked for me is to decrease upload/download speed settings in ManiaPlanet configuration to 56kbps modem to decrease ping in some case (though it will decreasse RecieveNetRate causing lags, hopefully less lags than before). If you already have that... turn off options at Network tab for download, upload and locators, as that's not really required for gameplay (though you won't be able to see custom stuff, neither they won't be able to see yours).

You're not alone with such lags, I have lags if there are over 11+ players on any possible european server (even if it's possible to run away or eliminate someone, it's difficult as hell due to very annoying skipping). No one hosts server in our country, and if someone does, there wouldn't be enough players to keep the server alive. It's not possible to get other ISP or better connection if you already have the best possible connection available in your location which is probably rural, unless you manage to get mobile internet connection with higher speed (this might be possible for some unknown reason) than your local internet and then tether to PC and hopefully make it playable. Though, I'm afraid that ISPs in Brazil probably don't care about it...

If you have to use American servers, you'll have to find a server which is lag-friendly and hopefully admin gives you immunity against kicking due to lag, and I don't think that will be easy.

I'm having much lag issues aswell. I can play around 3 maps with a ping between 20 and 80, and somewhere at the 4th map on the server I'm playing, my ping rises up to >200, and from there it stays between 200 and 600. :| Sometimes I just stays at 500. My ping gets so high that the projectiles even stop moving. Even after I restart MP.
Weird thing is it only occurs in ShootMania, both the HD ShootMania, and the LD Shootmania. Not in TM², nor TMUF, nor in any other game, so it's safe to assume it's not coming from my provider, I guess.
I'm not going to change provider only for SM anyways. :P
Before last update things like this never happened to me. Never. Haven't fiddled around in my connection settings, nor changed provider.

Oh and an FYI, not too relevant, but I play the other games on ultra without any flaws.
