I can't really add to what has been said about the community and offline usage. I also prefer the TMUF protection to anything else. Just please don't add DRM in and keep with the current system.

we work so hard to make the best games as possible that we will not spoil the games because of protections.

and I don't think we will do the bad case: have piracy with a better game and a paying game with annoying protection

Good point there, Hylis.
I personally think that you should be put in charge of the management of the game (also)

Pretty much all the points I would have wanted to make have been made.

I'd just like to add an example: Quake Live.
This is a free game, but it requires you to be online constantly, and any drop in your connection, no matter how temporary, freezes the game and makes you lose all progress.
This means that you cannot play solo against bots unless you are connected...
Because of this, even though Quake Live is free, I gave up trying to hook myself on it, and I still play Quake 3 today.

TM2's main selling point is the community (if I am to believe the short video clip from Ubisoft's conference) but Trackmania has ALWAYS been about both worlds: solo for the mappers and loners, and multiplayer for the rest of us. Trackmania helps both communities become one.
If TM2 would penalise me for wanting to practice for a league when I'm away from home because I don't have internet, I would probably stick to playing TMU just like with the Quake example... well probably less since it would be a completely different game, but still that principle would apply.

TMU was cracked within weeks of it's release I remember... there were even pirates playing online for a while with unranked accounts. But that problem disappeared, and yet I never had to have a CD or stay online to play TMU.

Piracy won't disappear. A loyal community punished for the existence of piracy will disappear.

Exelent answer!!!

I did just want to point out though and im sure everyone else has noticed this too....
The more times i visit my local games stores over the past few years the more i notice the lack of choice to buy "PC Games", PC charts have reduced in size and some shops have even stopped dealing in PC games all together
there are only a few supermarkets that stock PC games now and only a choice of what the believe to be the top 10.
This trend only became visible when DRM's where implemented, why? most likely cause would be on-line activations! end users who buy these game who don't have internet connections would return to the shops for a refund.... the only action the shops could take was to protect the profits and not stock something that was 9 time out of 10 going to be returned
The last DRM'd game i bought was Modern warfare 2..... it was explained to me by the shop keeper "If you buy this you can not return the game due to the DRM" Online activation!
Since that time not too long ago the Games shop has stopped stocking PC games all together and has only a select few second hand PC games and this makes me and others very sad
i have the last few weeks trolled several Games specialist shops to find that they no longer stock PC game too... and they dont even have any second hand PC games, nether will they now trade/swap PC games as they have no value for trade ins due to DRM's
I do believe that the said DRM's have almost Killed the PC games market with only a select few supermarkets stocking only the top 10 chart titles...... very sad times

If that's true, then there's only one option: no UBI DRM.
