you can be a little bit faster using the keyboard to select the blocks, with numbers 1-9, and ^ to get back ;)
Using the mouse to select the blocks is more intuitive, but slower.

Just like in the original Trackmania. This one has blocks above 9 in Folders, however, so that might be confusing, as you can't use the Keyboard for that.

TMarc: ~ is used to step back one level in the block menu. The more you know! :D

@dreadofmondays: There are different keyboard layouts. For example, in Central Europe the key to the left of "1" is ^ (QWERTZ-layout). North American QWERTY-keyboards have ~ at this position. And in France, the AZERTY-layout is used with ² instead of ^ or ~, if I'm correct. ;)

Simplest way to avoid the issue is to press F1 immediately followed by F2. Takes about half a second in total. :)

Or, if the block you want is already used in the track, just select it from the track by ctrl-clicking, instead of using block menu.

Imho this is a bit clumsy. The F-keys are too far away.

That's a good one but indeed, isn't always very helpfull.

I'll stick with Demented's sliding-down-idea for now.
