What determines where 3D decals are on surfaces?

What determines where 3D decals are on surfaces?
I'm wanting to modify parts of Valley so that the forested areas are a little less dense with 3D decals, because the forested areas really make my performance tank. If anyone could help me figure out how this works, I would be very appreciative.

if you want to change game files, it's impossible anyway.

yeah, you can only chose to disable 3D decals in the configuration.
Re: What determines where 3D decals are on surfaces?
sorry
The decals are added more or less randomly I think. And either a block has the property built-in or it has not.

If that's how it works, is an option to lower the density of 3D decals possible? That'd be something nice to see in an update.TMarc wrote: The decals are added more or less randomly I think. And either a block has the property built-in or it has not.

So, I'll go ahead and add that to my wishlist for update #3.

There is no real option to reduce gradually the amount of decals.Dinjoralo wrote:If that's how it works, is an option to lower the density of 3D decals possible? Perhaps only the shader quality setting could have a influence (if the shader is calculating the places for the decals), but that's pure theory.
