Re: Trackmania² Valley Released!

Just got done playing over 16 hours straight since release. :pil What a game!
I had a lot of fun and seen a lot of new and familiar faces. Many players who were checking out the game for the first time via Steam, and some who just got Stadium a couple weeks ago and were ready to check out the new TM already, so they picked up Valley. And of course many players I hadn't seen for a year or more.

Valley is as fun as it is beautiful. And the skill ceiling seems to be quite good. I improved enough within a few hours to start really enjoying maps. And I have some small indications within the handling that there's a lot more improving left for me to do, especially on dirt sections.

On my server we had just over 500 players pass through during the first day. We played over 70 new maps from MX that were posted since the release. Some great diversity in community maps already. I was impressed to see several track styles already, including fullspeed, tech, and even a mini trial/lol map. We also played some of the campaign maps. They're both beautiful and fun. Great job to everyone who built maps, without whom we wouldn't have had as much fun online as we did today. It was a great first day in Valley. And I look forward to many more to come (though not as long ).

Thanks Nadeo for finally bringing Valley to see the light of day. :thx: It was totally worth the wait! :3

Awesome game. I only regret that the car turning is not enough sensitive, and that it cant get a mistaken drift if you turn too much, with the sensitivity of your stick to master to avoid that... :(
This is kind of Coast but easyer, since you cant make drift mistakes...

The result will be that, you'll have to master and take only care about speed, brake and a good curve, but wont have to play with the car sensitvity, just have to turn to the max and then cross fingers xD That's a pity imo and decrease what skillcap could have been... Seems that the cars physics are the same since Stadium (except drift) And you left forever this awesome sensitivity that we find on rally, island or coast...

BUT

Awesome title!

It's kinda like Canyon isn't it ;) Fortunately it is the only similarity

Hi !

Valley is good, but I've got a small problem, maybe someone could help me.

I've got a laptop with a not-so-new graphic card, Radeon HD 5650 with the latest drivers, I've got no problem playing in Canyon and Stadium, but in Valley, whenever it comes to the forest, it becomes unplayable, laggy and maybe 15fps, and when I get out of the forest, it's again in 60fps.

I don't seem to find the right settings, even in very low graphics, I still have the problem in the Forest.

Did someone has the same probme ?

Yeah I had the same problem with my old GeForce 8600. It's those trees!

The key is to play long enough to let your brain slow down to the same rate as the 15fps. Then you stop noticing it. Seriously, I stopped noticing the bad framerate after about 10 hours.

That having been said, I'm looking forward to getting my newer PC back with it's GTX 460. I think it won't have any issues with the wooded areas.

Well, as there are settings for water quality, maybe Nadeo could implement settings for trees !

 for this next chapter in the Trackmania saga! Excellent music!

But even playing with a controller, the dirt is way to sensitive. I set my controller to the lowest sensitivity possible and even then it's almost impossible to get through a long dirt bit without crashing.

Please, make the dirt less sensitive, like in Stadium...

There are some guys who have mastered the dirt using kb so far, so it is possible, it will just take some practice.

I imagine that tracks won't generally use very long dirt sections, so maybe it's an issue that is amplified by the difficulty of trying to drive these nadeo dirt maps.

Game is beautiful and everything, but I can´t left to tell that the dirt gameplay is bad for players who enjoy hunting the best time, it´s frustating. I am playing on A6 for a long time and I can´t find any consistency on dirt because when you turn just a little more the car do a big turn and looses speed. When playing casually it isn´t a problem, you can "survive" on dirt, but when you focus on getting your best time possible, it´s not precise enough.

Any possibility of Nadeo improving the gameplay after the launch?

thx.
