After a few days of playing I think I can safely say that keyboard players in Valley are at more of a disadvantage than they were in Canyon or other previous TM games. On dirt the controls are way too responsive, the slightest tap on left or right will cause your car to turn like 30°, whereas with an analog pad you can control the turn however you like. In narrow tunnels where you often want to turn just slightly less than max, releasing the key for a fraction of a second can have you smack into the other side of the tunnel quite easily.
It would be nice to have a server setting allowing only players with keyboard to join to have a fairer playing field, because autolosing to analog players becomes tiresome after like 10 years.

I have no clue if and how that could be realised.boto wrote:It would be nice to have a server setting allowing only players with keyboard to join to have a fairer playing field, because autolosing to analog players becomes tiresome after like 10 years.
But I really must say, I cannot understand why everyone is complaining about the need of a gamepad in Valley.
You know, 1997 Gran Turismo 1 has been released for Playstation One and it was released together with the Dual Shock Controller and it quickly became a new standard in racing games to have analog steering.
I wouldn't like to sit a car only being able to steer max or 0 either.^^
Now 13 Years later Nadeo releases a skill based racing game and I think they can expect people to have some proper equipment. Controllers cost between 20 and 50 Euros here in Germany.
People invest a lot more money in Mouses. Can anyone complain if Shootmania cannot be played without a mouse, only because they cost some money and other games (text adventures) can be played without them?
Nah...
It is your decision, if you don't want to afford a gamepad, but you have to live with the consequences. That's nothing new in computer gaming, you can invest a shi9tload of money into your equipment and tehre are reasons, it makes the games better.
To cut to the chase:
I really, really recommend buying a gamepad for so many things!
And please stop criticising Nadeo or the community or the world or whatever, because of the gamepad being an advantage ingame.
This not only goes to OP.
Re: keyboard-only servers
As much as I can't play on anything but keyboard (I've even beat Super Meat Boy on kb, 106%), that much I don't approve such idea.
Why not also make different "something-only-servers"? What about servers for left handed people? How about server only for people with old/slow computer? You know, if you have some old one, you have disadvantage, as you have warps and worse graphic, especially at long distance from your position. Oh, here's the best one: a server only for people who play with lights off. Reason? Well... err... I know! When you play without lights being on, your eyes may hurt and you can't see your road very well, as other people, who have light turned on. Clearly disadvantage for the first person. How would you know if someone have lights on, you ask? A webcam. Everyone that would like to join the server would have to own a webcam, so it can see your light level.
This is all nonsense.
Play however you want. You think gamepad is better? Learn to play on gamepad. Making excuses doesn't make you better. What does, is practicing, practicing and practicing. Don't ban people from your servers because they can drive better than you for whatever reason. It's not cheating using gamepad or whatever controller you would think of.
If you decided to limit yourself, then I don't mind, it's your business. But please, don't force limits for other people, just because of your laziness.
And I really hate gamepads. I cannot play on them. I don't own any really good one, though, so I can't learn how to play on it. But I don't want to. I'm so much used to keyboard and I'm fine with it. This is one of the reasons why I don't play Island and all those noslide maps. But I don't cry about it. I let people play however they want and I don't mind if they beat me using gamepad, because they're just better than me. It's a fair race, everyone play the same game.
Another thing. Think of people who actually play on gamepad. That would be incredibly annoying for them, if they can't join every second server, which aren't that much to choose anyway I guess.
But why do I care? I don't even own Valley.
And TMU I own will be probably untouched, so it'll be fine as it is.

Re: keyboard-only servers
The valley, like canyon, are possible to drive ok with keyboard, valley dirt a bi worse though. In TM United only stadium and probably a little bit of coast & desert were possible with the KB. One reason why stadium has grown so high is that it has no pad/joystick advantage at all.
I can understand a KB-player's view with that thing as I used it for a year also, but players' controllers should not have an influence to more than their times. A good pad isn't too highly prized if you really want to be a competive player.

Re: keyboard-only servers
First thing I did when TMU came out, and I moved from TMN was to buy a wired 360 pad. It was pretty cheap and it's still going now, some 5 years later!

Re: keyboard-only servers
I don't even know if that's possible...
Just play the game however you want too, people should have the option to choose what they play with, and pad is so much better and more precise in my opinion. Making limits for the other players is not fair.
It's not like it's expensive to buy a gamepad either, I bought mine for £3, and It's the same one a lot of pro's have used. Kb has allways been at a disadvantage, even in stadium, Just look what happened to Karjen when he switched to pad just before a major tournament. And if you say that about kb and pad, what about people with slow computers etc..

Buy a gamepad, you can buy them from 5 to 60 euros and l2p on it

Re: keyboard-only servers
Sorry guys but I really have to disagree. I've played all versions of NADEOmania since 2003 with a keyboard and never had a problem modifying my touch for each environment/ pack.

Getting old, forgetting most of what I ever learned !

Add one for colorblind left-handed gamepad players while you're at it, so I can play alone and win everytime!kamyl wrote: Why not also make different "something-only-servers"? But to be serious, I know several people in valley that plays with keyboard and they kick some serious ass.
Limiting a server to be x-only (except for gamemodes and track-types) would, imo, severely damage the community and do more harm than good.
