Re: what would make this game more popular? Post here.
Some points that are pushing new and old players away....
I think I'll stop after that wall of text. I tried to keep it short.
- Remove Trilaser people are feeling tricked once you explain to them how it works. It is a bad way to do it and has some really bad effects to gameplay. In short it takes away a lot of the fun for players that like the aiming aspect of gaming and how it makes skilled aimers feel like beginners in certain situations isn't good at all. Actually many would just assume the game is shit and just don't play it. It would be hard to argue against that.
Balance is a secondary issue resoleved by determining spread of laser. Of course having at 0 spread by default but let gamemodes set the spread so they can balance their mode. A pixelperfect laser is far from perfect in all modes I bet just as Trilaser is a poor substitute for an actual spread that can be visually represented and understood directly.
- Fix volumeslider and recommended soundsettings Right now almost everybody that starts out are in severe disadvantage to a seasoned player due to the messed upped settings. The optimal way to play the game and have a good soundimage of where everybody is should be default. At least for anybody using 2.1 system. Moving over to surround system, HRTF is not really optimal but I usually recommend people to turn their surround speaker setup to 2.1 instead for this game.
Problem is that Nadeo actually on this forum has recommended totally messed up settings before so chance of this getting fixed is none.
Same with volume slider really. For those noninitiated it really comes as a shock that they are playing a game that has different mixersettings on the last 30% of the volumeslider. Which tbh pretty much messes up the sound and makes it hard to tell where people are.
- Fix sound on grass This would be an old issue but it is still a source of much annoyance when playing. Getting killed or kill player in cheesy ways due to them not hearing you running around 5m away might be fun in public but in an esportgame it shouldn't exist. You can arguee it is skill and so on but in general it's to much randomness and cheesyness to be fun.
- General gameplay on grass Grass gameplay as is today is hampered not only by soundissues but also how slow it is. It really feels like you get off a proper racebike over to one equipped with training wheels. Tweaking values on speed overall in game might be a benefit. Many people seems to think it is a bit slow overall.
Personally I would like to see a much higher maxstamina and regain value available for maniascript. Opening up for more options in custommodes and also possibility to speed up Elite.
- Elite mode Tweaks There are many small tweaks Elite could make to intensify certain situations and keep the action more interesting. Most of all would be to give defender on pole, when pole is open a benefit. Benefit would be negated if there are more then one defender on polearea. Something like +30%ammo if you hit. This is to combat the boring situations where attacker gets a good early turn and the fight ends up on pole early. Usually attacker has so huge advantage to avoid rockets and let defender get down on single rocket. Defender can't keep pressure on attacker at all. You end up with a pretty boring situation. I'm not saying it isn't balanced but it is boring. Both for players and spectators.
A big part of Elites inherent problems as I see it is that the mapeditor just don't have the resolution to make a good Elite map. You can basically not build a map where defenders can rotate nicely and have a tactical gameplay. This extends to why cp maps never been successful to. In simple terms I am talking about how the maps always force defenders to play defensively due to how far it is between cover. Think a standard castleblock width as the normal distance to get to next cover. Since you only can do that rotation when attacker is on reload you can't move very far. It's pretty much dictated by attacker reloadspeed which is slow enough already. Making it slower is not an option since it would make the game less fun.
Either way the mapeditor would need blocks that sort these things out or defenders should get an ability to get around like I suggested in an earlier thread somewhere. (paying rocketammo for very brief shield)
I think I'll stop after that wall of text. I tried to keep it short.

-weapons, and maybe adding something like secondary shot or second weapon . Having only 1 weapon is very limited and modes like royal, felt very simple for that.
-Second theme. It's not like is very necessary, but only having one feels like this game is still in beta.(although night fits like it already have a second one)
-I heard people that didn't like to not have the weapon show, they felt that the game was unpolished. (not for me that I'm used to it)
-Free stations or lower price in some sales (maybe if in steam it could've reached the 50% in holydays sales, new players could have come).
I think this game needs only a little more of content and polishment to become a really popular game.

-Have another big LAN and give plenty of time to prepare. Give qualifiers for not only EU and NA but other growing regions like Oceania and others.Joader wrote:If Im not mistaken NADEO had some money equally to the amount of at least 4 SM launch tournaments.
Why not try and take some of that to launch a really big, greatly advertised Open Tournament with various qualifiers for the whole world. After the success of last years Shootmania OP3N @ gamescom I dont understand why they dont try to make a second one.
-In that time lower the price of the game and release elite as a free to play.
-create a final version of elite an leave it alone, quit changing it all the time its really frustrating for people.
-release new environments, new times of day and new blocks.
-Make game modes and maps for the community and quit relying on the community to fuel YOUR game.

Quake? Interesting.djhubertus wrote:- 2 or 3 new weapons (it's the main argument for COD/Quake/CS kiddies, why this game is named Shitmania)
- Elite, Joust, Heroes and Royal as free stations
- Interactive tutorials for new players to learn basics of movement, HUD, ability blocks and game rules.
- Lower price

You really think new modes and maps from nadeo would help? What would be the difference to the ones made by the community? Ok, combo is a really cool mode but new modes will also split up players much more.Lersion wrote:-Make game modes and maps for the community and quit relying on the community to fuel YOUR game.
I think Nadeo should focus on things that could not be done by the community like bugfixes, interface/hud improvements or tools like the action maker.
Re: what would make this game more popular? Post here.
To be honest, i dont think any improvements to the gameplay itself would be the right way to "gain people".
Its also summer now, so its better to be outside while it lasts (in northern europe atleast
) Winter might bring out more people and game grows naturally when time passes.
Improvements could be great for the gameplay tho, and thats good.
Heres few that i have missed alot:
- Fill up objects:
The game could benefit alot from "fillup objects". You know when you place some block combinations and it leaves a hole or a gap? Would be really great and benefitical for the gameplay to have objects that can be used to fillup little gaps where people falls into.
Like there are now the floating nucleus, but if you use it in combination with castle floors, it leaves gaps at sides. And also using the floating nucleus middleparts on castle floor leaves huge gaps. Still you can use castle blocks underneath to not leave it completely open, but its still one block down and people falls into these gaps very easily.
^- This would be really good for the gameplay. No more falling down or getting stuck.
- Floating castle or normal block:
I might have said this 10 times already, but its crucial for the gameplay really. Its not very good to force special surface for normal walk. You have to be careful just by walking normally to other spot. The stamina might reload faster now if you stay on the platform, but if you jump to anywhere else it dont affect. The red blocks are cool, but not good to force for normal walk. They are good for special uses, special spots, which should make more sense.
- Objects:
In TM2 the objects are really cool. I would really like to see some of those in shootmania, and many of them. Objects are the best
- More shapes for floating nucleus:
The floating nucleus is awesome, but some pieces are missing. The center piece and some other pieces missing and there is only 2 or 3 ways you can use the floating nucleus. Maybe its known what pieces are missing, but if there is need i can do a jpg to show.
- Floating light that gives good light underneath:
The floating tube lights are nice, but they dont give visible light underneath. Good for design but not for lightning places. In night mood you need lots of lights, and using the normal lights takes always some block space. So you can choose to have an idea, or a light, but you need both. Floating light, that gives good light underneath would be very good. Wont take any block space and leaves more room for real ideas.
- Night mood & players:
I think the thing with night mood being too dark is not only about not seeing the walls or gaps. But its also that you cant see the players. Sometimes you just realize there is a player when its 1m away from you. The "fill up" inside player is pitch black and that makes hard to see players, the glow sometimes doesent seem to be strong enough.
Also in other moods its sometimes "hard to see" player, I dont know, does anybody else experience this? Specially in sunrise mood in shadows areas. Maybe putting more stronger glow could make it better, or filling up the pitch black player with some lightly coloured glow? Dont know.
