[TM2-Canyon]Freeze detect
Re: [TM2-Canyon]Freeze detect
May I ask if you are running the game through Steam? I have a similar build to yours (x4 965, 5870 (newest drivers 13.4), W7x64). I recently had reinstalled through Steam as i hadn't done a fresh install in over a year and the game had many updates. I figured a fresh install would be good. However, and for reasons unkown to me, when I run the game with Steam I get a ton of mini freezes like you seem to, both in Valley and Canyon. I reinstalled the standalone maniaplanet and the freezes are gone. However, I have shut down Steam entirely now while I play, just in case. I don't know if there's some confliction going on or what. Hope the freezes go away for you.
Re: [TM2-Canyon]Freeze detect
I'm not using steam nor do I have "tons of mini freezes". It freezes the most/only on server joins or other massive xaseco messages and buddy notifications. The buddy notifications also freeze my system when I'm working in the track editor.
I have the game installed ever since Canyon beta and only added to it. Although I don't feel like it, maybe a fresh install of the whole business isn't such a bad idea at all. On the other hand, I've had freezes like that on all Trackmanias on 3 or maybe 4 different computers.
I hope to get a nice big lag spike tonight while running the ctrl+f7 data logger and get this over with.

Re: [TM2-Canyon]Freeze detect
I have that micro-freezes too, but not while buddy notifications. Mostly they are at start (sometimes I see only "1... GO..." for example, sometimes freeze is longer and I see my car crashed on the wall). Sometimes freezes are while playing (but not every time in the same place - second run and everything is ok). As far as I remember, Ubi has problem with his engines - I remember that freezes from Xpand Rally Extreme. So - after maaany years, we still have the same problems and as I suppose, if they do not fix the same freezes many years ago, they'll not able to fix it now. Sad.

Now I can confirm that!zarexz wrote:I'm not using steam nor do I have "tons of mini freezes". It freezes the most/only on server joins or other massive xaseco messages and buddy notifications. The buddy notifications also freeze my system when I'm working in the track editor.
The only freezes I have (after I disabled multi threading in config) is while someone joins/leave server.

Re: [TM2-Canyon]Freeze detect
Some new strange facts. It starts in my case even in TMUF. It starts few days ago when i bough new HDD. Much bigger. Old was 320 GB, slow standard Samsung, new is 2 TB (one primary partition in both cases).
Now scenarios:
A:
1. Disk D: (2TB) - installation disk
2. Disk C: (120GB SSD) - system disk (and TMUF data storage)
= lags
B:
1. Disk C: (120GB SSD) - both installation disk and data storage (moved installation directory)
= no lags!
C:
1. Disk D: (320GB old one) - installation disk
2. Disk C: (120 GB SSD) - data
= no lags!
Now - I noticed that I have TM2 data storage on G: (1,5 TB) and I always have that lags in TM2! I never have them on old TMUF because TMUF uses Documents&Settings directory on C: drive and I have no chance to change that.
Maybe that hints gives you some ideas how to fix that annyoing problem. Of course - there may be not so nice MB or not so great HDD but still - performance is very good and I have no problem with GFX (always fit to frame - 60FPS - vertical sync) except that freezes.
BTW. I must made more tests but so far it looks like this is problem related to HDD.

Re: [TM2-Canyon]Freeze detect
This is interesting.
I have only OS on my SSD, and everything game related now on the second hard disk.
I moved all folders of ManiaPlanet there: setup, ProgramData content, and personal content.
Most of the time it is running fine. Only sometimes there is hard disk activity I cannot pinpoint - and this causes very small cyclic stuttering ingame.
A initial lag could be caused if the hard disks are in powersave mode and need to wakeup.
On mechanical hard disk you would hear it - the spindle motor starting.
But I can't tell the effect on modern disks.

Re: [TM2-Canyon]Freeze detect
Please, TMarc, as I tell you before, do not try to comment my posts or resolve my problems, because you just don't understand them. Ok?
I have no time to explain you what I mean and answer you, as man before me, for stupid questions about detailed configuration etc. If you're not TMUF/TM2 programmer, then you'll not able to resolve this lag/freeze problem, because it is program related, not hardware.
You don't even know what are you talking about, as always. "I have only OS on my SSD"? So, tell me, where TMUF saves data? Where is "Documents and Settings" located (now - "Users" but it's D&S)?
OMG, I starts to explain you the same things again and again... Again!

I only told what I observed with my system, partially as reproduceable behavoir, as I also would like to understand and to know the issues of the games, in order to help others in future.rat_in_car wrote:Please, TMarc, as I tell you before, do not try to comment my posts or resolve my problems, because you just don't understand them. That you don't want my help I understand, but I simply have to help everyone

But instead you are happy that you're not alone with your issues, you react stubborn, unfriendly and arrogant.
How can others understand if you start writing yourself contradicting things

If it is not hardware related, how does it appear you have no lag with a certain hardware setup, and lag with another, huh?

rat_in_car wrote:because it is program related, not hardware.
To answer your question, my Documents and settings folder is still on the primary disk (SSD), as well as TMUF user data and cache.rat_in_car wrote:BTW. I must made more tests but so far it looks like this is problem related to HDD.
The game setup of TMUF and of ManiaPlanet is on the second disk (HDD), and I also moved all customizeable folders of ManiaPlanet to the second disk.
I did not do it with TMUF as it is not using cache to the same extent as ManiaPlanet.

Re: [TM2-Canyon]Freeze detect
As I wrote - you don't understand. "Hardware related" is because hardware FAILURE, if something is really wrong (like broken HDD or GPU, bad RAM etc.). If hadware is working fine, then problem is in software - in this case, with hdd management. Even on very old computers, programmers can made loading data and displaying gfx simultaneously. In TMUF/TM2 programmers can't even made working chat while loading map. People have lags while loading big mod on next map etc. In old days these bugs are called bad code. Now I suppose is some kind of improvement. :P LOLTMarc wrote:If it is not hardware related, how does it appear you have no lag with a certain hardware setup, and lag with another, huh?
If reading/writing anything causes lags, then it's bad code. Do you understand my point now? Your comments never helps and always adds some useless "noise" to every topic. We're talking about TMUF/TM2 bugs, we're not trying to improve our hardware or find a computer where problems not exists.
Re: [TM2-Canyon]Freeze detect
You're funny
You seem searching to prove that ManiaPlanet code is the only possible cause for lags etc.?
But you se yourself that there is much more involved than only ManiaPlanet.
The variety of hardware and also of software is now so huge that it is indeed difficult to find a system where everything is running fine.
There are different Windows versions, drivers, applications, etc.
Nadeo simply can't make it work for everyone and every constellation.
It would be interesting to see a few reference systems for beginner, enthusiast and pro gamers.
