[suggestion] Faster Quit

Post by rat_in_car »

TM2 needs lot of time to quit. After I finally press "Quit" button, it takes 20 (or more) seconds. I don't know what this game checks or load/saves at the end, I just want to exit to Windows! At least I want other processes to be usable, because now TM2 stole focus and the only way is wait or kill TM2 process.

Is really that difficult to made normal, fast quit?

After pressing Quit and before the process terminates, the game reads in all Replay files from the Autosave folder.
If you have lot of files in this folder and a slow hard disk, it takes a longer time.

I reported this problem in the Maniaplanet beta forum and ask about the reason.
Nadeo doesn't tell why it is needed to read in all Autosave Replays at exit, but they added an option to the extended profile page not to save every Replay file. The option to save every replay file is unchecked by default.

Try to move all your Autosave replays to a different folder outside access of ManiaPlanet. Can you confirm, that the game now quits faster?

I can only guess why the game reads in all Autosave Replays on exit:
Lets assume you bought TMValley and starts to play. You skipped the Solo Campaign and use the Multiplayer to play some maps on different servers. Some played maps are part of the Solo Campaign (e.g. A08, C03).
After this you quit the game and visit a buddy. Your buddy owns also TMValley and you log in with your account. If you now enter the Solo Campaign, you will see, that you already get medals and times on the maps A08 and C03.
This automatic is possible because the game scans all autosave replays at exit and sync some data with local config files and the master server.

So, wait a minute, my game hangs for extended periods of time on exit as well... like to the point where I am used to using task manager to manually shut it down.

I have around 2000 autosaves, by simply moving those it will actually shut down normally? What happens when I get a bunch more autosaves? Do I just keep shuffling them over to a new folder periodically? Because I'll tell yah, it's super annoying how long the game takes to shut down on it's own, if sometimes it doesn't at all.

After deleting autosaves, game quits a lot faster. But it looks like a bug for me. And deleting autosaves is not a solution, is workaround.

Could you try the debug version? Then we could see where it stops at in the logfile.

        Debug version: ManiaPlanet.exe Build 2013-08-02_13_24, Download http://files.maniaplanet.com/debug_vers ... t_logs.zip
:!: Attention: the file name of the debug version exe was changed to ManiaPlanet.exe :!:
Do a backup of the original exe before extracting the debug version. ;)

Debug what? If this bug is so easy to reproduce (lot of autoreplays made lot of delay at exit) then TM2 programmers can made debug by themselves. We're users, not beta testers. We, as users, can help sometimes but only if bug is rare, not typical.

I agree that the game should quit fast and not do useless things, I'm on your side on this.
But this was not the intention of my reply.
I explicitely took the care to quote to whom and to what I was referring to, and it is still wrong
I asked steeffeen if he could run the debug version for his "not quiting" issue. ;)
