Basic help (technical and account/key)

It always needs several days before Steam knows of keys purchased outside of Steam.
Attention: do not mix up game key with validation key. The validation key is short (5 characters) and only required for ingame "purchases" of stuff.
Game activation key is only necessary to activate the game if purchased or used outside of Steam.
A purchase of any game inside Steam is activated automatically.

My friend recently added ShootMania to his Steam library with a CD key I won from a Beyond Gaming tournament. He had a beta account with ManiaPlanet prior to this activation and when he boots the game via Steam he logs into this account but can't play because the client asks for his Game key (the one he activated successfully on Steam) yet it won't work because ManiaPlanet denies the key saying "Key is already in use"

What can he do to fix this problem? He just tried to recover his account via email unsuccessfully so he could post about the issue; after clicking the activation link in the recovery email he got this message: 'The activation key you supplied does not match any in the database.'

His ManiaPlanet ID is keludemonslayer and his Steam ID is keludemonslayer

Any help that could be provided would be awesome, thank you !

He successfully redeemed his key on Steam but can't play on ShootMania with Steam? Did he succeed to create a ShootMania Steam account when launching ShootMania on Steam? If yes, maybe he is not using the right login when launching ShootMania on Steam.

I am unsure if he succeeded in making a new ShootMania account connected to his Steam but when he launches ShootMania through Steam, Maniaplanet shows him his beta account to log on to, which he does but the key doesn't work.

He has no option to create a new account, only the option to log on to his old one.

I advise your friend to contact the Ubisoft support to ask them to which account his Steam key is linked.

Normally you create a new account by clicking on "create a new profile" when launching the game. He can't click on this button?

And yes, please tell him to give his Steam key and his Steam maniaplanet account (I mean the account from which he can log in through Steam in maniaplanet).

I want format my harddrive soon, so I will have to reinstall the ManiaPlanet games. My question: do I have to re-enter my activation key foreach game I want to install or are they somehow bound to my account? I ask because I only saved the keys for the TrackMania titles, but sadly not for ShootMania. Can I look it up anywhere, now that it's still installed?

Yeah you were right, this couldn't have been smoother. I backuped the ManiaPlanet files from the ProgramData and My Documents folders, installed the minimal setup and just copied them back. I start the game and it's automatically login me in and everything is the same!
