THREAD TOPIC : HOW CAN WE GIVE ELITE MORE TACTICS, DEPTH & DYNAMIC PLAY.

Defending in spawns is rediculous!

IDEA#1 : BLOCK AN ATTACKER FROM CAPTURING.
Defenders can block off pole-capping. So , in other words, the attacker can not capture the pole.

How to block?
If a defender is standing on a specific block the attacker is not able to capture the pole.
The player using this block can not shoot ( or maybe has a slower reload or loses his stamina --> w/e is most balanced )

Why?
- The defenders can, maybe, have other tactics and break this current 'campy-defense'
- Defenders, maybe, rotate more ( towards the anti-cap-block ) = more movement by the defenders.

Where to place these anti-cap-blocks
- Somewhere where its not too overpowered to use. Somewhere open when the attacker is at the pole (so he isnt completely chanceless when he is at the pole. )

Visually
The metal bottom of the pole glows red. The attacker cant cap.

IDEA#2: BLOCK OF CERTAIN ATTACK ROUTES

How to?
Create a block and when the defender stands on it, a certain attack-route is blocked-off for the attacker.
The player using this block can not shoot ( or maybe has a slower reload or loses his stamina --> w/e is most balanced )

Why?
- More dynamic defense because in order to block a defender has to reach the block first. = risk
- Succesfully blocking off attack-routes changes the attackers attack-possibilities and defenders need to get in new positions. ( The 3rd defender is still blocking off the attack-route untill he thinks its safe to join play again. )
- More stragety & tactics will surely come of this.

IDEA #3: 3Defenders - 3 Different spawns

How to?
Mappers get the option to place 3spawns somewhere on the map. In each spawn spawns 1 defender.

Why?
This will increase movement of the defenders and will bring more strategy & tactics.
Some spawns can be placed closer to the attacker or far away from the pole forcing the defender to play aggresive or rotate a lot.

Visually?
More spawns will be on the map and I dont think that will look great. So my suggestion is to redesign individual spawns to something smaller or smth. Also defending in the spawns should be forbidden.

OTHER IDEAS:

- Destructable Railpads/Jumppads if u fire enough on it. ( 6rockets - 2lasers )
- 1 special Power-up on the map
examples: Increased stamina, speed x1.5, ...
Instead of camping defenders can defend this powerup because if the attacker can grab it, its going to be reaaaal hard to win the round ( as a defender )

- 2poles where the attacker can cap. ( dont place them too far from eachother )
This is a really good idea I think.



Maybe some ideas are stupid, but ofc im still thinking about it. Just dont leave a comment calling it stupid, but give me some usefull feedback in stead.

Seems like some nice idea's to spice the gameplay up a bit. As you kinda said, in higher level games you only see defenders in the most defensive positions in the back of the map around the pole. The same static positions every time. This is sometimes due to the way the maps are made, but you can only do so much as a mapmaker. I think these new blocks would help to get some more interesting maps.

But maybe... these blocks are going to end up like the "checkpoint". Never really being used.

I approve of these ideas, though I am concerned about the (switches) to turn on the forcefield & deactivate the pole.

If they were to be implemented they need to fit well with the map, not only use one whole block but to be integrated, work well with different blocks such as the small lights you can place on various walls and placement on red floors etc.

The forcefield idea is an awesome one, you could use vertical fields to block attack routes and if there are ones designed horizontally then they could be used to create traps like you see in some other games like Unreal Tournament (rarely used though). One thing to note as these blocks would be great fun for other game-modes such as siege and if implemented differently (i.e. to block off the stages until the attackers capture the first stage then the next) Royal, joust & combo for traps etc.

Ofc these type of things need to be tested and ofc they arent only for Elite.
Maybe they work , maybe they dont...

This post is merely for trying it out and getting some feedback^^

If you're good in a game its easy to say you like the game.
But I believe even pro players sometimes feel that Elite is too repetitive/campy and thats probably not so easy to admit.

Anyways, it just bothers me that defenders do the same thing over and over again. Every official map has like 1 or 2 defensive setups and thats just not good enough for me :(

How Elite is for a defender atm:
The entire round a defender just stays on his position until the flag is capturable and they rotate somewhere closer to the pole. Even spawns are defending positions. ( spitfire is a great example. The defender reads the rules 45s... :D ) You should like LOCK DOWN spawns after 15seconds or something // or move spawn further away. This is the mappers fault.
Sometimes when there is a good oppertunity the defenders rush the attacker... but thats it.


I posted 2 ideas ( and they probably arent the best ideas ) but I did hope for some feedback regarding this issue.
I believe that if we could get some creative ideas we could "pimp" the defensive side of Elite and make the game more attractive as a whole.


Also smth stupid, but could add to the coolness of Shootmania: Sounds like quake.
I think it would be cool to have sounds like "Tripple Tapped" "Tripple Kill" "Headshot" "100m Shot. Impressive"
Even these little things can make the game way more fun/better.


PS : Im not trying to make Elite look bad. I really love it, but I think it could be even better.

Whats bad about spawns being defending positions? Except for it might seem like they are meant for something else they are just objects/cover like any other ...

(well one negative point would be that "they are basically the same position on every map" :p)
