Use a better texture (e.g. 4096x1024), use tiling of small textures, or split the face of the object into smaller polygons on which you place textures which form something big ;)

This is something generic in terms of object creation, I'm pretty sure you will find thousands of tutorials about it in the net if you search a little bit ;)

Although it does not explain high resolution texturing, this is quite nice: http://www.chrisalbeluhn.com/Normal_Map_Tutorial.html, also this: http://www.blenderguru.com/videos/the-s ... texturing/

And this here perhaps is exactly your issue? blurry texture?

Please post screenshots of your issue, and if you have fixed it, how

If your source material (textures/images) are low quality, then the final render will be also. Make sure you get hires sourcematerial. Plenty of (free) websites around, just Google a bit.

So it's not about how many textures, just better high resolution textures to begin with.
E.g. If you make a stone cube 25x25m, do not use a stone texture that is really lo-res (like 200x200 pixels), but make sure it is more like 2000x2000 pixels.

Have a look here : http://www.cgtextures.com/
