And like every working human being they need to get paid.
Free 2 play = no money.
I think thats why it isnt free & I respect that, but im not happy with the current situation either fng_thatoneguy.
I was expecting a lot with this Elite demo chizzle, but im afraid it wont be enough.
I dont think SM will be free any time soon ( due to above reasons ), but I hope we find some sort of solution that will make everybody happy.
Free to play meaning free2play-model, It doesn't necessarily mean that the game is completely free. Many free2play games out today have many small cosmetic purchase options and subscriptions to give you additional access to the games features but It does not entirely mean you can't play the game for free. Those small cosmetic purchases boom like hell because not only does it give an option for players who enjoy your game to pay back what they feel the developer would deserve but those players get to show off some nice cosmetic stuff on their model.
For example, a game like Planetside 2 - It's free to play but I am willing to pay more than £40 to pay for buffs/cosmetic items as the developers put a lot of effort into the game.
ShootMania - I've spent £12 purchasing the game (early beta discount last year), there are no more purchasing options on the game apart from purchasing other game titles from NADEO, such as Trackmania. But I'm not that fussed about those games.
How much am I willing to pay for ShootMania cosmetic items if there where any? Well the more effort Nadeo put into developing the game and releasing updates, the more I am intrigued to invest more into the game. ShootMania means so much to me to the extent of making new friends, giving me opportunity to gain experience in the Esports industry (Livecasting, tournament admin etc.) ShootMania is the game that got me to go to LAN and meet fellow gamers, it's also the game that I actually took seriously in the competitive aspect because I felt I had a really good chance to become pro at a single game, start a community and help populate the game especially when it relies on community-based marketing (word of mouth/Play this game because we are all playing it).
I support free to play model and I do believe it will help ShootMania in drastic ways.
Anyway Off-topic so please don't continue
