Is everybody really that good?
I'm working my way up the single player tracks, and I've noticed both in Canyon and Stadium that despite getting Gold medals and doing some (what I consider) pretty amazing races, that I still very rarely rank above 50% of the population for a particular race. What's going on? I consider myself a fairly decent gamer including racing games, and certainly "above average"... But apparently not, according to the Trackmania statistics. When I give it my all, and can't beat half of the population on a track, it makes me wonder what's going on. Heck, even A01 on Stadium I can't seem to get a Gold on. I did get one Author's medal though on A03, so that was cool. But usually I get my gold and find that relative to everyone else, I still suck. Is there some secret to this game that I'm missing? Some strategy of thought that people use to shave off those seemingly impossible milliseconds? I'm very curious.

Maybe this topic have some answers for you New to TM2 Canyon teach me how to slide. The biggest tip of all tips is this: Practice practice practice and practice. A lot of drivers are allready driving in Canyon for more then 2 years now and they are still getting faster!
If you are driving with a keyboard its very usefull to bind your breaks to a different key then the cursor down key. But thats just 1 tip, check the topic and you will find some more solutions from tm2 experts
Good luck and most important: Have fun!
Greetz,

Re: Is everybody really that good?
Thanks. Yeah I do love drifting in Canyon, although I was surprised at how much it DOESN'T work in Stadium. I've gotten fairly good at it after I realized how it works. Only had the game a couple days though. Historically I've preferred joystick racing, and in games like NFS or Flatout that works superbly. But I noticed that in TM2, the keyboard gives me better results. And yeah I did notice that binding another key to the brakes helps a lot. I use Right CTRL.
Logitech should offer discounts for new keyboards to owners of this game. ^_^ I can imagine most racers keys take quite a beating.

Hahaha that would be nice indeedRecon7777 wrote:Logitech should offer discounts for new keyboards to owners of this game. ^_^ I can imagine most racers keys take quite a beating.

Some racers also use a gamepad to drive fast and a lot of them are even way faster with pad then with the kb.
I thought there were more topics about it in the forum, i am sure you will find them.
Gl !

Re: Is everybody really that good?
Stadium A12. Man... If you touch ANYTHING... If you let off the gas at ALL... You won't beat the Gold car. I made what seemed like a perfect run and I got within 0.20 seconds of the dang thing. Sometimes I think these maps have too high a standard. Sometimes its pretty easy to get the gold. Other times it seems fairly well impossible.
Anybody here get a good score on A12? Anybody actually get gold on all the tracks?

got author medals on all tracks in both TMNF and TM2stadium, not that hard after 5 years of driving.

Re: Is everybody really that good?
Try a gamepad / controller Recon .. it improved my game no end

Re: Is everybody really that good?
Author medals for ALL tracks?!? Doesn't that get a bit tedious after retrying the same track fifteen thousand times? Even the slightest error at all will significantly throw off your time.
For the most part its ok, but I think what really gets me is the all the flight time in this game. Jumps and such are very cool, but the landings don't seem to be handled very good at all by the game. If you're not lined up *perfectly* straight when you take off, the landing will send you into a mad spin. Is there any way to manage this?

Re: Is everybody really that good?
You definitely need to practice quite a lot for these games as each environment has its own "unique" driving characteristics ..
. I've only ever used a (Logitech) gamepad in TM (8 years) as I found that the most suitable but there are some excellent drivers out there who prefer the KB over using a gamepad. I'm usually burning out a gamepad every 12 months but my KB would busted in no time ..
A good site to check out is mania-exchange as you are able to download drivers replays that you can either watch or race against. This can really help those that are looking to improve their times as you get to see just how they race the track .. and yes .. some of the set times are pretty mind blowing ..
If your finding Canyon and Stadium a little difficult then Valley will push you to the limits as it would be considered the most demanding of driving for TM2 envi's.
Practice practice practice and persistence will definitely reward you with better times though ..
Most important is not to become frustrated and make sure you have fun fun fun !! ..

Here is the link
http://tm.mania-exchange.com/
Use the mouse over at "find tracks" and then select Nadeo maps.
On the bottom of the page you can select "Environments". Tick only the one you are interested in and then click search.
Now there should be all of the Nadeo tracks for the game that you want to play. Most of them have user uploaded replays available. Simply download them in the replay folder of your installation and then open them ingame. Go to editor, then select replay and then select either view or advanced editor, depending on what you want to do.
There is also somewhere a function to play against a replay, but can't remember where it was.
