Sorry wawawawu, I don't think the update will come until late April. See this post by Hylis for more info.

Or see the post below, since Hylis clicked submit just seconds after I did.

Like I said last month, christmas is being pushed to next month, and I totally understand how disapointing would be santa claus to say this. Happily that I am not santa claus.
pksens wrote:there is still a month until GA, which isn't a big event of any kind. It's a shame.
pksens, the Gamers Assembly will welcome 170 players of Maniaplanet that pay for travel, accomodation and entry fee of 45€. In addition, they will have train for weeks/months to see wozdabest for the occasion.
The Gamers Assembly is the biggest LAN in France and it's quite cool to see that Shootmania is the game with the biggest number of registered teams, just in front of LoL and quite in front of all others (CS, BF, CoD) I don't say that Shootmania is in front of these games in popularity, and it's quite the opposite. But it's still something to see that core of Shootmania players to decide to go to the LAN, and this is why I will be happy to be there as well.

Yes, the game needs an update, and we are working on it. Our goal is to finish the setup this week (but nobody believe it will be done this week internally) So, we intend to make it next week. Once it's done, we will be able to roll out the closed beta, which is a much better way to do such a big update than to go out in the open.

So, there is even not a delay due to the Gamers Assembly since the core community members will use the time of the closed beta to do two things: learn about what's new to be more operationnal to help the others at launch and help us to make the version more stable and efficient. It will be really demanding for them and for us, but will be a big plus for all others.

Of course, if we could have made it 6 months earlier, it would have been better. But as far as I am informed, it takes time to try to make one of the best FPS. I don't say that Shootmania is one of the best FPS, but if it was quick to do, you can also ask yourself on why it could be such an interesting ambition for a game.

Shootmania is going on it's 1st anniversary, and I think he will know how to walk from there, and even talk. Players will be capable to make enough custom stuff on it to bring interesting experience to many. And it should be capable to welcome more and more players, and have a better reputation than before. So, all in all, for a first year, it could be seen as quick as well. Even if I know it would have been better to be faster: it is obvious.

Now the time has come. This month for the closed beta, next month for the update, and the month after for the grand opening (universal demo with some cool stuff)

And it's really good to see how the positive attitude of many players help for this past year. The game needed it a lot, and they did it. We should congratulate them to brought us to this point. And from there, I expect things to be easier. It's always easier to be in a increasing situation than to be in a decreasing one. But thats in the later situation that you see who are really the people that you can count on. And even that, I think it made some good to the community. So, in the end, apart from the difficult time, we may all be stronger from this experience. And if some players think they can simply change without saying nothing, they will be surprised. The ones that are used of my way of doing will be less. I think some players have to be more positive, and I don't think that what we are doing, by making a closed beta and releasing after the GA is "a shame" like you say. So, unless you apologize, I don't think you are really helping much here, as much as we try to do, at least.

Thanks.

nice post Hylis.
You make it sound like a realy big update so now im extra curious^^ and for the first time I really feel that its "almost finished" :D

I have one question ( actually way way more haha ) : Can you tell us more about getting in the closed-beta? Can players just ask to join the beta and its okay? Or do you pick the players...? How should I imagine this?
The neverending waiting game has to stop.

Why you are not support Maniaplanet on IEM Katowice? Last year I saw SM to promote and play.

What about upcoming E3?

After investigations and looks in dark sides of the forum Image, I can say to you that players are currently being chosen by the staff.

I entered Canyon in 10/2011 and signed up for ShootMania Storm Beta on 09.07.2012. Since that time i stuck on ShootMania, and love playing it like at the first day. I also entered Stadium and Valley on their very first day, but my favourite is SM. Maybe there are other fps with more violence and aggressivity, more gimmicks, more weapons, more astonishing graphics... SM doesn't need that Stuff to be a great game. So i really hope ShootMania isn't on the way to become "another" fps. Let's stay unique!
