Me too! I've hoped to make some new blocks - now I hope that this feature comes with Shootmania.

@GrimR: There aren't more blocks - Stadium has more...

more blocks, visual damage, maniaplanet, enhanced editor and mediatracker and even more (can't remember what)
I just bought the Pc Games ( 2 sites info about Tm2 ) and they are saying exactly the same.

Trackmania 2 will have more blocks, visual damage and better graphics. The rest of the new features are in the new system Maniaplanet. The author of the article in Pc Games is very dissapointed that there is no career mode or even achievments.

Unfortanetly I have to say, what I read in all the articles ( I know all articles :D) is that in Trackmania 2 only old things are optimized. More blocks, better graphic, better handling. The only new thing is visual damage and the big changes are just in the Maniaplanet system with the other games ( Shootmania,Questmania)

No Puzzle mode, no platform, just race mode...., no block import....(for the first time)

The more I hear and read about tm2 the more Im unhappy what Nadeo is doing..

I really hope you dont destroy the game Nadeo!! You know I can't wait for Trackmania 2 and Im doing collections threads and so on, I know all articles, informations, pictures which I cant post here... and even if I love trackmania I have to say that Im not happy whats going on with Trackmania 2 Canyon..

more blocks: not really, even if there are a lot of blocks, there is only one environment at the beginning
visual damage: that goes under better graphics. Also visual damage doesn't mean much. In 99% of cases you'll restart your race if you crash.
enhanced editor: I haven't really seen anything about that. Things like moving parts of the map or automatic terra-forming are nice, but it won't change the track itself.
mediatracker and mediaplanet: It doesn't really interest me because it doesn't affect gameplay. (I'm not sure if the new mediatracker can do that?!)

Don't get me wrong, I love Trackmania, and I'm still looking forward to TM2, It's just that I expect a bit more. It's not an TM 1/2 like Sunrise or United, its Trackmania 2!

also @TPAM: I totally agree!

To be honest, if you get a complete new environment. Do you really think that you need a block import feature at the beginning? I played nations since it came out and till the forever update, there were every day new kinds of maps with unseen ideas. And as there should be a new game of maniaplanet every few months, i really doubt that canyon will run out of new types of mapping (during the time until the next chapter comes).

The Stalker, I really would like to explain that "TrackMania 2" is the whole adventure that is ahead of us. We have decided that instead of making TrackMania 2 development, followed by a ShootMania and a QuestMania for years, that it would be better to develop the three in parallele.

TrackMania 2 is an ongoing development, with additionnal environmments along the road. TrackMania² Canyon is the starting block, with strong fondations ready to support our upcoming developments and the players activities.

Keep also in mind that we will launch ShootMania Storm after, and that it is also a way to change more the gameplay than block import. Since we have to observe what will happen with this title as well, I think we are having a more solid approach this way.

I always say that it is a start of an adventure. And as I see so many people to play TrackMania² Canyon inside the company, I can tell we should be able to have good fun with this first chapter of this long story I hope it will be!

And to be only 2 months from the first beta of Maniaplanet makes me feel strange and excited ^_^

That is a good one, i did not really think of it that way.
I still get surprised by new tracks in stadium now and then, when i see a usage of the blocks that i never saw before, i got endless respect for the creativity of some builders, always coming up with a new combination that works well.
If you look at it from a pure (and very simplified) mathematics point of view, 500 different blocks give 500² (=250000!) possibilities to lay 2 pieces together.
So if you make a track with 100 pieces.... It really is endless if you're creative enough.

That is very true indeed.

Well, not really disappointed, but you know me, always looking out for something new to do
I was really looking forward to block import, but when i think about it, and with the help of mind clearing reactions like the ones quoted above, i don't even think i will miss it.
It would be nice to have it in an update maybe, like when the new environments that come out later have all the players, to regain some activity, to refresh "older" environments.
Hylis wrote: Maybe we should open for "scenery" blocs first. But if we do, it will be later. First, we will see what the "basics" do in TM, SM and QM :)
That would be great, i don't know how much scenery blocks there will be in Canyon, but when i take stadium as an example, always seeing the same inflatable castles, palm trees and cactuses is getting a bit boring.

When I first heard about the possibility to create custom blocks, I was very excited. Now? Well I can see that custom blocks just might destroy a little of my creativity, but really, sometimes I have a need for a special kind of block to make that jump smoother, or that transition cooler. While I still think it's possible to make cool stuff like that, I still hope that the custom blocks one day will turn into a reality. And it is something that would be really needed, at least when I think about QuestMania. Being the game we know the littlest about, RPG have been a small part of Trackmania for a while now, and I would really like the possibility to create my own blocks there, because it makes a big difference to have a square wall, and to have a gate there. While this is possible using replay ghosts, it doesn't make it any real. I mean if I were to make a bridge in Trackmania now, it would look ugly, and there isn't any blocks that resembles that of a bridge. So I really do hope that it will be possible to make own blocks. It could add a little extra to the tracks atmosphere to for example have realistic-looking cactuses if you're building with a desert-mod.
Modding + Creating blocks = Infinite possibilites + Me is happy =)

hello Hylis,

so what I can understand and what I hope :D is that you don't want to give us all features at the beginning, because it would be too much?

you also said, a game isnt perfect when you cant add anymore, its perfect when you cant remove anything.

So if the game will released ( hopefully in 2011) then I hope that we get small appetizers during every month.

But my biggest question is, will you add puzzle mode or other mods later? You know, I also didnt finish puzzle mode,( you said this in the Edge magazine, that only 0,5% are finishing puzzle mode) because it was somewhere too difficult to me and I don't really want to make a puzzle like 2 hours. But these modes were the best high jinks besides the race track( solo or multiplayer)... and it increased the fun :-/

I dont except that those features will come after 1 month after release, cause I know you are a company of only 15-20 workers and you really do hard work for finishing 3 games! but, is there even a plan to make those features?

In my opinion its okay to add the block import feature later, because you have so many possibilitys, lets think:

~500 blocks( there could be more, but I left out the scenery blocks), 4, routations, 60 height possibiltys( just a guess) , so we gat in the abstract 240 different capabilities for every block,
if I provide all contingencies
->500 blocks ( 500x499x498x497....) = 30414093201713378043612608166064768844377641568960512000000000000x 240( routations and height)
=

7,29938E+66 capabilities=

7299380000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 ( or even more/ of course philosophically speaking, because the blocks arent at the same positions every time so we would also need to add for example 500x500 field -> 2500 more possibiltys for every block... uff )=

unlimited opportunities, so we dont need block import for the first time.. :D

I expect to see nice evolutions by the players, thanks to the system. At start, it could be month after month that we feel the game evolving, but who knows what will happen when all players from TM, SM and QM will be able to innovate with the ManiaPlanet system. Maybe I will connect everyday only to see what's new on the innovation side of things.

From what I read, I think it is the part that I am more aware of compared to the current understanding of the games here. But we still have work to do in that direction as well, and will during the beta. Once the beta of Maniaplanet will be done, it will mean that the foundations are ready for the adventure! I am much looking after this.

Thanks for that, Hylis! :D And as a reminder to all, I want to say that ManiaPlanet is going to be an evolution. Not simply a standalone project that's 100% finished on day one of release. With all three environments being released incrementally, and then with the addition of two further games in the release of SM and QM, there is a lot of content that can be added later into the game.
