Sorry but out of this all I get is a bunch of QQ and someone who is full of themselves. If you think that nations players won't play tm2 then why post here? We now know your not going to play... leave it at that. No need to continue to complain, it isn't like your complaining is going to get you anywhere. Nadeo will produce as many games and spend as much money on them as they want. I just came on here.
Can somebody please make a summary of how Froltbeuse failed at making a good argument against this tournament?

What people have seemed to miss is that TM1 (UF) is different from TM2 (Canyon, Valley, and 3rd enviro). Particularly Frost, and his new shadow-puppet. I know it seems like an obvious conclusion to make, but it's one that people seem to keep missing, if A) it's honestly been proposed that making Canyon will detract from the populace of Nations one iota, and that B) promoting Canyon at eSports events will also detract from Nations. It is, in a word, ridiculous. Why? Allow me to elaborate.

Firstly, Hylis himself stated that Trackmania 2 would be a complete break from Trackmania 1. A reboot of the franchise, if you will. So there's not going to be anyone dragging their old tracks, models, or skins up from the grave in order to play them in Canyon. Except for maybe nostalgia's sake. Secondly, the population of Nations is something around the number of 14 million players. That's huge. Even if every single one of them went out and bought Canyon on the day it came out, well, not only would Nadeo be set for life, but do you honestly think Nations is just gonna go -poof-? Like that? No. That's purely ridiculous. Because at least 80% of the Nations players are in it because it's free. And because it's the easiest environment (til now) to pick up and play. That also segues into my next point, about why this game will remain a bastion of eSports racing even after Canyon comes out. Because it's the simplest environment, even those with not much experience in the Trackmania franchise can pick it up and play it, because the physics are much like any other racer. Further, -because- TMN is starting to have a sponsorbase, do you think they're just going to up and abandon it for a game that is seemingly designed for competitive eSport? No, that would be a bad business move, especially for a game that drops some of the "realism" that Stadium has. So, in short, FrostBeule, quit your whining, and Florent, keep up the good work!

Frostbeule said : you have to understand, Nations has finally after some years started to become rooted in the esports scene. this means we got several very known organizations that supports Nations players to go to competitions by sponsoring them. this development is increasing every day and we continue to gain respect from the traditional esports communities. it doesn't make any sense to ruin that by having another game put in its place forcefully. sure im COMPLETELY fine with TM2 being an esports game if it becomes that naturally.
You have definitely no scene knownledge at all...

I read through the huge wall of posts now *phew*

I agree to K.
TM2 is a completely new thing, that's the reason for the "2".
And with the competition at Dreamhack Nadeo and Ubisoft just want to announce it a bit more. It's a good way to do so, as they can reach many gamers. This competition has nothing to do with TMNF because it's a completely new game. It won't push TMNF out of the eSport scene instantly. (even if it would replace TMNF, then it would be a process over years and in a "natural" way. Not because of a tournament at Dreamhack ;) )
If TM2 is really a good game for eSport, then there will be the natural way. Then Nadeo can push the natural process a bit ahead, so that it would not take years for TM2 to get into eSport. This can be done by hosting competitions for example at dreamhack. But then TM2 needs to be good for eSport or it will disappear relatively fast from eSport.

just to make some closure here: no i don't hate TM2 and i don't have anything against it if it becomes an esports game either. what im against is the idea to try and forcefully make it an esports game by holding and sponsoring these kind of events. because i think it only hurts the already existing established TMNF community and nothing good is going to come out of it since i don't believe TM2 will become an esports game anyway. it will just cause alot of confusion for sponsors teams and events. it's not about whether they should promote their game or not, it's about how they are doing it. and i think they are doing it wrong.

and yes, im also worried about what will happen with TMNF. because ultimately it's up to Florent and nadeo what they wanna do with it. they can easily just close it down or restrict it even further with freezone to force people to play and buy TM2. because let's face it, Nations is a very popular game, and even with freezone the numbers haven't dropped that much. so i just think that would be a huge shame, because there's a legacy for this game. we got 5 different world champions, we got so much history. i just don't want to see that going away. i realize that Florent and Nadeo can do whatever they want because it's their franschise and yeah they make the decision. but that doesn't mean i will be happy about it. because like ive said, Trackmania is really divided, it's the people that expect new environments; TMO, TMS, that's how Trackmania started, and there's TMNF which is very different from that. imo it's a stand alone game, where as the other envs are just bonus stuff. and yeah it's obvious that Nadeo have gone back to their roots with TM2 and that's probably to be expected. but it's like Korre said tho: don't let your babies die =) notice the plural form.

but anyway, time will tell what will happen.

I see you're afraid only about the future lack of players in TMNF, but I still don't know why are you afraid. You know you can't stop it, but also it's pretty sure, that maybe up to 15% of TMNF players will buy TM2, so what's the matter? You don't like this idea - ok, but this definetly won't affect on the decisions of the players. This debate should be done.

"Forcefully?" "Hurts?"

Since when was promoting a game doing that? I think somebody is just a bit too attached to TMNF...
