I know it's better to have regular updates for some reasons, but it's also difficult: competitions, creations and servers have to adapt while we have to check and update many things on our side. Since MP3 we had many versions, but I look to go toward a deeper phase of dev soon, to come back with big things. I believe that there is still plenty of cool things to see with what has been delivered and custom abilities.
I can totally understand why you're slowing down with updates and want to prepare "big" things a bit better/longer to improve updates with new content.
But I have to say that there are two different types of Updates: Updates that contain new content and features and the other type: updates with bugfixes only (maybe similar to the ones you call hotfixes).
Updates with new content and are good to come on slower steps.
Whereas updates with bugfixes should be pushed very regularly!
In the ideal situation there should be one update every week containing bugfixes only (NO features). Even if it's just one bug that's being fixed, it is way better than waiting a few months to fix bugs. Bugs are annoying for all players and the earlier those bugs are fixed, the happier the players will be.
Regular bugfixes also underline how active you work on the game
Additionally, little updates with bugfixes should have no impact on tournaments or cups, as those are not based on bugs, rather are some of the cups prevented from being held by bugs (e.g. bugs in the cupmode)
So I ask for bugfixes in the current update speed and content updates every few months or whatever pace necessary. Think about it
